This film in a word is ‘Passion’, from the moment you meet the characters you are captured. Pedro Almodóvar does not disappoint in this film, it is great that after so long that he still holds the magic that he had at the beginning of his career. He draws us into a story that unfolds in a Catholic boy’s school during the years of Franco to their present day lives. Enrique (Fele Martínez) is a film director and opens the film cutting out newspaper articles for inspiration, when out of the blue a young actor claiming to be his childhood sweetheart Ignacio (Gael García Bernal) knocks at his door with a script about their childhood, half fiction and half reality. Captured by the story Enrique agrees to make the film. Its story focuses on the abuse of Ignacio at the hands of Father Manolo (Daniel Giménez-Cacho) when he was in the school.

The story is very much Almodóvar and it is an extremely original script and is acted out superbly. As I love all Spanish films I can say without a doubt that this is a great film for all you people who have not seen one yet to go out and do so because it is great and will not let you down.
