The King of Comedy is Martin Scorseses brilliant film about fame and obsession. What is superb about this film is that one starts off warming to Robert DeNiros character, Rupert Pupkin, thinking that there is slight chance he can make it onto Jerry Langfords (Jerry Lewis) show, yet as the film continues the audience sees that Pupkin just isnt that great (or sane), he has not got what it takes (even though he practices his jokes, monologues and how to greet fans within his bedroom.)
The King of Comedy is an under rated 80s film that must be watched! Again, DeNiro is wonderful at portraying a desperate man willing to take desperate measures to succeed. He does not want to be stuck at the bottom where he feels he is although Langford says thats a perfect place to be. DeNiro and Jerry Lewis work extremely well together while their characters are explored on screen. Scorsese has made a funny, dark and sometimes sad film that should be watched and experienced.
