Based on the book by Mary Rodgers (which was also the inspiration for the '77 film of the same name).
Freaky Friday is not only the most consistently funny of the year, but it is wise, in its own way, and actually has something truthful to say about parental and sibling relationships.
It stars Jamie Lee Curtis as uptight psychologist Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as her punk rockin' daughter Anna. The two don't seem to get along at all, fighting constantly.
After a Chinese restaurateurs meddling mother gives Tess and Anna enchanted fortune cookies that compel them to swap bodies.
As predicted, Anna and Tess discover how difficult the other person's life is and learn to understand each other; the ways in which it is handled is intelligent and sometimes even surprising.
It is hard to complain about anything in "Freaky Friday." Its drama is more subtle and believable than most PG-rated family films. "Freaky Friday" is warm-hearted without being soft, and a comic delight. I give this film a well deserved 4 out of 5.
