A film with Johnny Depp in, is in my opinion, pretty much always worth watching. This seems particularly apt at the moment, where he appears to be on a role of really rather good performances. Finding Neverland is no exception. Depp plays the creator of Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie (complete with a very tasty Scottish accent), and the film looks at how the eponymous story came about. Opening with the failure of a previous play, things do not look good for Mr Barrie, at least not until he meets the Llewelyn Davies family, a widowed mother of four boys. Through his contact with the family, he starts to develop the story that ends up being Peter Pan. In one particular scene, you see the boys jumping up and down on their beds, and in Barries imagination, their bouncing leads to flight. I think we all know where that was leading.

It is really the relationships in this film that make it work. There is not overly much action, but heart-felt shots of people enjoying their time together. Wonderfully shot with Depp and Winslet giving fantastic performances. However, it is Freddie Highmore, who plays Peter, one of the boys, who in many ways steals the show. For someone so young, he puts in a terrific turn as a child really suffering from the loss of his father. The developing relationship between him and Barrie is truly touching to watch.
