There is no question AVP is just another shameless cross over cash in treading the same path as Freddy versus Jason. Nevertheless its still makes for an enjoyable, if none too cerebral, watch. Dont be expecting an intricate plot or for that matter any character development whatsoever. The story is thus a group of intrepid humans set off to explore a vast pyramid hidden miles beneath the surface of Antarctica. They find themselves caught in the middle of a feud between a group of Aliens and the Predators and are finished off in short order. The rest of the film is therefore dedicated to much scrappage between the two extremely formidable species and surviving human Alexa Woods. The special effects are impressive; the appearances of the Aliens and Predators especially stand out, looking far crisper and more realistic than in their 80s outings. Great for cold days when you just want to relax with an easy to watch film or for fans of loud and explosive action movies.
