John Turner Spillers was born about 1802 in Hancock Co., GA. He died Sep 20, 1881, in Crawford Co, GA. He was born to Elizabeth and presumably William Spillers of Virginia. He had an older brother, Samuel Spillers. He married 1^st Matilda Culver the youngest daughter of Nathan Culver, a Revolutionary soldier from Somerset County, Maryland and his wife Nancy Powers, daughter of Richard Powers, married on Dec 23, 1827 in Hancock Co., GA and they lived there until her death about 1835.

They had three children:

(2) William Thomas Spillers

(3) Eliza Jane Matilda Spillers (b. Nov 13, 1833)

After Matilda Spillers’ death in 1835, John Turner Spillers left his children with his brother Samuel and his wife Martha Culver Spillers (sister to his wife) and enlisted in Col. Ward’s Battalion, Capt. Bullock’s Company of Georgia Volunteers who fought in the Texas War of Independence. He returned to Georgia in less than a year.

On March 21, 1842, John T. Spillers married Mary Ann Adams (b. Nov 11, 1823) (d. Feb 20, 1906, buried in Providence Church Cemetery, Crawford Co). She was the daughter of Robert Adams and Sidney H. Manderson. Robert was born Sep 27, 1794 in England and died Nov 9, 1868, in Crawford Co. Sidney H. Manderson Adams was born in GA in 1800 and died Jun 8, 1872, in Crawford Co. GA. Robert and Sidney Adams were married on April 14, 1822.

Jul 5, 1852), (d. May 22, 1919, buried in Bond Spillers Family Cemetery at A.T. Spillers Estate in Crawford Co.) Mary Elizabeth Rigdon was the daughter of Stephen (b. 1820 or 1825)(d. 1909, buried in Elim Cemetery, Whittaker Road, Crawford Co, GA) and Elizabeth Rigdon (b. Dec 31, 1833) (d. Jul 25, 1899, buried Elim Cemetery, Whittaker Road, Crawford Co, GA). Stephen was a member of the Co B, 8 Battalion GA Cavalry CSA. Cicero and Mary Elizabeth had 7 children:
