Value of Life

In the last few weeks I have realized that I may have been wrong all along. For quite some time now, I have been telling everyone that this world has become a cold heartless place to be. I have been saying that our government doesnt care about our lives, and they have helped us to create a society that has lowered the value of life. I have repetedly said that our government officials and society in general has put wealth above life. I stand before you corrected. With the events of the recent weeks past, I have to think about that way of thinking. The story surrounding Terri Shiavo has shed new light on my thoughts. First being our government's concern for the value of our lives. President George W. Bush has even gotten involved in Terri's case. Isn't that comforting? As the fight to spare Terri's life started to get critical, most of our government including George Bush, quickly got involved. I was wondering how long it would take him to get involved, seeing how he has proven so many times that he is pro-life! It just wouldn't be right that a christain man with such high moral values wouldn't step up to help Terri's family in this fight. We as americans should be proud. Bush has done everything he could, he said so himself. He has done everything he could. It's just sad, our president has enough power to send us to war without having any valid proof of reason, but we have not given him enough power to stop the starvation of an innocent american citizen. I also find it a little disturbing that our president, our state governors, and the pope all have the power and influence to order executions of convicted criminals to be put on hold, but not one of them can intervine for Terri Shiavo. The president has been awefully busy lately, trying to make our bordering (freeloading) nations happy, it's nice that he could take a few extra minuets to fight for the value of life. Of course you have those people who say that high levels of our government should not have gotten involved in this case. I say, why not? If we can start a war costing billions of dollars and many lives, all in the name of another countries freedom, then why can't they get involved to help an american fight for the right to life? My thought is, the right thing should have been done before it ever got to high levels of government.
Now, what about society putting a price on life? As I said, I may have been proven wrong. It seems Terri's husband has proven that you can not put a price on life! That is, no amount of money can keep him from starving his wife to death. Mr. Shiavo was offered $10 million dollars, on just one account, to let Terri's family take care of her and not kill her. He turned down that money claiming it is Terri's will to die. Do you smell that? It is obvious that Mr. Shiavo is hiding something. He is guilty of something. There is something that he does not want nobody to find out. He has done something to Terri and he wants to make sure she is dead as soon as possible, so nobody will ever find out. He is probably worried that if she lives, she will get better, then somehow the truth will be discovered. What reason does a man have to let this happen? It could be simple, let her parents assume responsibility, and walk away. He would gain more respect by just walking away and letting her live. I don't know about you, but I think $10 million dollars would help pay a few bills. Taking the money and letting her live would help pay a lot of bills, that is unless her living would lead to a discovery that could put you away for life! It's a creul dark world we are living in, and it's only getting worse. Maybe she would be better off. Our government claims they have done everything to help Terri. I have seen them fight harder for less. This is one thing the elight would like to be seen as morally correct. It won't be long before this is used as a stepping stone for society to decide that a person with brain damage is of no value. Soon, it will be ok to kill off any person with brain damage. When did our government become one that is ran by judges and political elight? The people have spoken in this matter. "We the people", what does that mean? All throughout this nation, people have signed pettitons, and raised their voice to allow Terri to live. The nation agreed on one thing, to spare life. The people have been ignored! It is the people who are supposed to be the overall say in this United States, Yet one man and a few judges have decided what is best. So, what is the value of life? You can't put a price on life, because to many, life has no value.
