At our site, we have volunteer drivers, which arrive at 10:30, to pick up the dinners. It is a pre-designed route, and there are allocations for special diets, such as Diabetic people. The drivers take the meals out to the homes, and arrive back to the site at about noon.
One of the many benefits, is the daily contact that the homebound receive. For a lot of people, this is the only company that they have at all during the course of the day, which is important, for health reasons, besides seeing a smiling face..
We have had certain situations, where someone has fallen or is ill, and the drivers have been able to call fot help fot them.
The drivers carry cell phones, that have been donated, so they can call right away if needed.
