What you see is a piece of wood with part of a skull attached. All that basically remained was the neatly wound grey hair bun. Two copper combs were inserted on either side. One has been removed to be photographed and is at the top of the picture. The appearance is somewhat deceiving. It looks as if the lady was buried face down, however, due to the way decomposition occured, the back of her hair ended up on top. It was quite fascinating rather than gruesome.
