Lone
Star Heritage Quilt Guild Meeting Our web
site- www.goecities.com/lshqg A Note From Our President… Dear
Fellow Quilters:
Where do I begin--I'm so afraid I'll leave an important point out.
I was so glad Carolyn scheduled a work night for our August meeting. We
accomplished so much and I appreciate all your participation and enthusiasm
for the quilt show. You will probably receive this newsletter just
prior to the show and I hope each of you are as excited as I am about seeing
all the wonderful people who will come to view our hard work on display.
There are some who are unable to participate in the show due to health
reasons (theirs or family) and I know the rest of us will do all we can to
make our show run smoothly and "appear" to be no effort at
all.
Be sure to acknowledge the sponsors (listed elsewhere in this newsletter) and
let them know how much we appreciate their support. Also---check out
all the local banks and see our auction quilts on display. They're
beautiful.
A huge THANKS (and it's not near enough) goes out to Deanna and
Another thanks goes out to Dee Harder, Bettie Hammock,
For all of you who have made quilts for the auction--
If you have made plans to be a part of the group going to the fair on
the 24th--please let me know. I need to make a list of those going and
what you are going to demo so we can try to cover as many areas as possible.
We will only "be on duty" for 2 hours and I feel this is a
great honor for our guild to be asked by the Texas Department of Agriculture
to do this. We are having aprons embroidered with our logo so we will
look very professional when we go.
When we meet again on the 27th, we'll need to get a few volunteers to hang
quilts and sit and sew at "Harvest Days" at Heritage Park on
October 3rd. Since we will have just given away our donation quilt--we
won't have chances to sell--just rocking and sewing and talking. This
is an easy one--can you help?
I want to thank each of you in advance for all of the hard work I know will
be done in the next couple of weeks. Remember that this is neither for
me nor for the board. This is your guild and your efforts will make our
show what it can be.
You make it a joy to be your president!
Sincerely, Jan Vice
President of Programs…Carolyn Tosh September

Membership Secretary…Sharon Callahan Just
want to tell everyone how GREAT it was to be back with my Guild Family and to
Thank each of you for telephone calls, cards and letters of support during
this time. I am so proud of our Guild, 83 Members strong and growing. WE had
43 members present at the August Meeting, and 4 guests, and one of the guests
became our 83rd Member. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Charlotte
Hoppenreys, owner of Charlotte's Quilting Web. Treasurer…Gwen
Kearney
Recording
Secretary…Jo
Gossett After a period of visiting and refreshments, President Jan
Bartley called the meeting of Lone Star Heritage Quilt Guild to order at 6:45
PM on Monday, August 23, 2004 at the Senior Citizen Building. There were 43
members and four guests (Justin Peyton, Judy Hudgins, Peggy Nelson and
Charlotte Hoppenreys) present. Charlotte joined and became the 83rd member of
the guild. As one of the
surprises promised by Carolyn Tosh, Program Chairman, she introduced
Charlotte Hoppenreys, owner of Charlotte’s Quilting Web Quilt Shop. Charlotte
told about her new shop and some plans for the future, including a Pajama
Party on October 23. Charlotte gave a $25 gift certificate as a door prize
won by visitor Judy Hudgins. Carolyn Tosh announced
the September program will be on Snippets given by Yvonne and Carol from
Wills Point. Dee Harder made a
motion, with second from Gwen Karney, treasurer,
noted the treasurer’s report as written in the newsletter. Gwen requested a
volunteer to take her place as TAG representative for next year. She reported
that she and Peggy Wilkinson attended the August TAG meeting. Patsy Crist thanked
the August hostesses, Pat Pillard, Pat Powell, Lequida Jennings, Sharlyn
Parent and Patsy Crist showed a
rough copy of the guild cookbook that will be sold at the Quilt Show. Lequida
Jennings made a motion, seconded by Sherry Shockley, to sell the cookbooks at
the price of $10.00. Motion carried. Jean Thurman made a motion, seconded by
Cathy Pool, to print 500 cookbooks. Motion carried. Charlotte’s Quilting Web
offered to put extra copies of cookbook in the quilt store with all sales
going to the quilt guild. Pat Pillard, chairman
of design committee, announced the 2005 donation quilt will be on display at
the September meeting, but ticket sales would not begin until January. Deanna modeled an
apron with the quilt logo, and requested workers at quilt show to wear an
apron for identification. She showed examples of door prizes to be given away
at the quilt show. As second surprise for
the evening, Carolyn Tosh demonstrated the Alto QuiltCut2. Quilt Guild is sending
applications to participate in Texas Traditions, a special section, at the
Houston Quilt Show. Quilt Guild received a
special request from the State Fair of Texas to participate in a quilting
exhibition and demonstration in the Food and Fiber Building on Friday,
September 24 from 12 to 2 PM. Sixteen members responded and will show various
aspects of quilting. Lois Shannon and
Shirley Burney won door prizes. Many Show and Tell items were shown
including, baby quilts for Advocacy Center, quilts for Fall Festival Auction,
and personal quilts. Meeting adjourned. Respectfully
submitted, Colleen Hines Librarian… Reporter/Publicist…Deanna Hasten Historian/Publicity/Quilt

Our big event is almost here, and a big THANK YOU to everyone who has
worked so hard in all areas of getting ready for the show. The auction
quilts that are being finished are just beautiful! Design
Committee Report…Pat Pillard
We
do plan on having the quilt binding on by the Sept meeting. However the focus
this month is The Quilt Show! Bet that surprises no one .
Tickets: Please turn in all your tickets ASAP The tumbler will be at
the show. Remember to bring any unsold ones also as they may be needed for
sales at the show. Video.
As mentioned at the last meeting, we would like all members who have a
quilt/quilts in show to tell on the video about their own quilts. Just pick
one please if you have several. I can’t tell you the exact time yet, but it
will be Fri. Please call or email me if you are willing to do this. Since we
have a lot of members now I can’t call every one. This way you tell me if you
are interested. And I hope you will. Just think how much more interesting our
video will be with all participating. Please. You cannot imagine how many
people wrote nothing in the comments about their quilt. Makes it much harder
to talk about these quilts. Remember
this is for our history too. Actually this is the primary reason for the
video. The young man who did the video last year will be doing it again this year. His name is Owen
Bickford, Jr. and he will sell you a copy. If you saw last years, you know he
did a great job. I will try not to be so nervous this year. Anyway the CD
will be $20 and the VHS $15. He will be taking orders. You might like to have
your own. Please support us on this and let me hear from you so I can make a
schedule. Of course with this kind of thing, it is hard to say how long each
will take. Owen said he would most likely edit each one down to about one and
a half minutes. The sooner you let me know you are willing the better for us
all. Fabric,
ladies we have fabric. 100 Yards! From P&B Textiles. I will bring to next
meeting for you to see and to place in our cupboard. Some backing, some baby,
some brights. And I will also bring a Thank You for us all to sign. I let
them know we received the package, but we will all want to say thanks, not
every day we are given 100 yards of new fabric. Hope
to hear from you about your quilt.
Respectfully submitted, Pat Pillard Design Chairperson Hostess
Chairman…Patsy Crist Hello Dear Ladies: Hasn't time flown this month?
Everyone is gearing upward for the "Quilt Show". I got all of
the black printing back from 'Advantage' last week. I've been making
color copies here at home. The color process is very slow on my little
printer--but looks good. Dear, dear Cookbook
Helpers: I have always heard the expression 'Crème
of The Crop'. Now when I think of how hard you all work, I can't help
but think of this expressional quote. Thank ALL OF YOU
who so diligently worked non-stop during our 3-day assembly line cookbook
production. As you all found out it was a big, big task -- but again,
with a joint group effort it all came together. How good it felt to see
all those completed books on day 2 of production. I hope you all
up-date your resumes, in case us retirees need to -- or decide to go
back to work. Or, if still working, maybe you may want to change jobs.
Ha! Ladies, you were great and so much fun! I thank you for
your help, enthusiasm, and glad heart in this joint effort. You all
never cease to amaze me. WORKERS WERE: Cecilia
Anderson, Dee Harder, Deanna Hasten, Thanks also to Jan Morrison & Hugs & kisses to all
you. Cookbooks

over I will bring to the Guild meeting. See you ladies at the Quilt

additional students in most of the recent workshops and it is a shame not to
make this available to anyone who would like to attend. Please note that the
sign-up is FIRST COME - FIRST SERVED regardless of what guild you belong to
so please let your membership know that they can sign up at any time. I will try to send the next quarter of

After
much discussion and Jan's approval, we have reduced the monetary amounts in
order to double the number of winners we can recognize. There are
so many outstanding quilts, I think we'll all appreciate the expanded
recognition. The Donation Quilt
is hanging from the balcony at City National Bank downtown. As of
September 1, auction quilts were hung in all of the banks and they
look gorgeous. Be sure and get by Alliance bank and see the two hanging
from the balcony. What Gwen and Re: Work Assignments This is a welcome to everybody, regardless of what
your assignments are. When you are free or have some down
time, wander over to the Elaine's quilt frame that will be in the center
of the gym for any of the members, as well as anybody interested, who wishes
to try their hand. Carol Lamprecht had pieced the top and was
gracious enough to make it available for us to work on. It
would great if enough people worked consistently that at the end of two days,
it would be finished for her to take home and bind. Carol will be there
to tell us how she wants it quilted. Printing
