November
2003
Hello Ladies,
The end of the year is closing so fast, but our planning for 2004 is moving right along. What a good year we have had and I'll bet it will be even better next year. But, then that's what we do. Get bigger and better every year.
For those of us who got to go to Houston, I can't tell you how much fun it was. Maybe it was because it was my first time, but I was mighty impressed. Roberta and I walked our legs off since we had to see everything in one day. We got so many good ideas. Some others went for lessons and were there longer and Carolyn Tosh went for training. I'm hopeful that even more of us can go next year.
Did you read Deanna's excellent article in the newspaper about our new display at the West Side Plaza? Thank you ladies who so generously shared your quilt items. As always, everything looks so impressive.
ATTENTION CHILDREN....I will meet with those who want to have a quilting lesson from 5:30 to 6:00 pm at each Guild meeting. In November we will be going over the tools you will need, how to cut, and we will put a block together on the flannel board. The actual sewing you will do at home under mom's guidance. If you have any pictures of what you would like to do, bring those. Mom or grandparent should be with the child. Of course, no class in December. That's our Christmas Dinner.
Many exciting things to cover in November. Don't miss. We'll be electing our new officers and Chairpersons. Remember, nominations can be made from the floor, but you must have the candidate's permission before nominating.
If you know a member who was missing at our last meeting, give them a call. Let them know they're missed. Every member is valuable and important to our creating the kind of guild we all enjoy.
Billie Ruth Standbridge.....President
Vice President….Jan Bartley
Thanks for all your help in getting the
children’s quilts ready for quilting. If
you have the ones you took home ready by this month’s meeting – great!!! December party at the
latest.
Our speaker for this month will be
Terri Vogds of Denton. Her lecture/trunk show will be “Strip Pieced
and Quick Cut Easy Twist Frames.”
Come
early and bring a friend as we will have an in-house quilt show! We have asked to have 3 quilts from the Texas
Department of Agriculture’s Quilt Block Competition Collection available for
our inspection. These quilts have been
completed to promote Texas’ natural fibers and are named “Common Threads of
Texas”, “The Millennium Quilt – Texas Then and Now”, and “Texas Blooming
Floral”. These quilts debut at the state
fair and are available to travel around the state for different events – so we
are very fortunate to have them with us this night. (FYI – Texas natural fibers showcased in
these quilts are cotton, wool, mohair and leather.)
Here
are a few things to be thinking about for the new year:
1) We have been
asked to create a quilt/wall hanging for the Sulphur Springs Sesquicentennial
Celebration for their festivities next July and we need to begin this project
ASAP!
2) Quilt workshop
in January/February with Bettie Hammock if she’s still available.
3) Block of the
month series
4) Challenge
block for our quilt show
NOTE: Be sure to put December 15th on
your calendars NOW for our annual Christmas party. I still need a few people who can decorate a
table for the dinner. Also be on the
lookout for a great exchange gift.
