From the President:
Hello Ladies,
As I think all of you
expected, with all of the work that has gone into getting the auction quilts
made and getting prepared for the quilt show, I did not get your marvelous
crazy quilt blocks put together for my daughter, Mikelle.
However, in light of this, I AM taking Rose Hillsamer’s
block that has Mikelle’s and Simone’s names with
double wedding bands and the date – 2003.
I felt that her work so beautifully represents all the extraordinary
work and imagination that went into all of your blocks. I researched and printed the history of crazy
quilts which will even add to the value of what you have done for them. When I return I’m going to try to get the top
finished in time for the Fall Festival Quilt Show.
By the time you get this, I
expect to be in the little mountain town of
I want to thank you for all
the efforts that have gone into making the auction quilts and the items you’re
continuing to make for the boutique. But
I need to emphasize all of the help we are going to still need to put on the
final production. If you have not yet
sent in your quilt entry forms, please do so ASAP. I’m hopeful of not having to start calling my
list upon my return. I’m counting on
your cooperation in this matter. Get
your ticket sales money turned into Pat Powell.
Keep in mind that everything you sell beyond your personal $20 helps us
meet our final goal. Let Pat or Sharon
Callahan know if you need more tickets or if you want to take the quilt to any
event or gathering.
If you haven’t made it to the
Take care and I will see you
at the August meeting.
Your president: Billie Ruth Standbridge
Vice President….Jan Bartley
Thanks to
all of you who participated in the work night at our last guild meeting! Bettie finished the top she was piecing
together before we left and we got about half of the other one stripped
also. We should have both tops finished
and ready for show and tell at July’s meeting.
Our program
for July will be our own Carolyn Tosh.
She will share the square-in-a-square technique with us as well as a
demonstration of the Alto Cutting System.
If you haven’t tried this piecing method, you’ll want to try it. It’s fast and easy once you understand the
method.
Have a safe
and fun summer!!!

Membership Secretary….Sharon Callahan
I would like
to take this opportunity to tell Jan Bartley what a great job she did in
organizing our June work program. We had
a lot of fun and accomplished so much.
All I can say is “Wow!” It was so
exciting to welcome four new members to our quilt guild family. I would like to recognize them again, for
those of you who missed our June meeting.
We had two previous members rejoin, and that is always a treat because
we missed them. Welcome back Louise Hill
and Nancy Schrimsher. Peggie Wilkinson
visited us in May and had so much fun, she joined us in June. I was really happy to see her join; she has
such a bubbly personailty. Welcome
Peggie! Our fourth new member, Flora
Cain, or Flo, which she likes to go by, read about our guild in the newspaper,
came and with no hestiation, said, “I want to join the guild.” Flo jumped in and went to work pressing
blocks and talking, getting to know everyone.
Welcome Flo.
Just a
reminder: The Guild membership pins are
in and some of you have not picked yours up, so please see me at the July
meeting. I really want to thank those of
you who have given me items for the boutique, but I still need more. Don’t forget to bring your finished signature
blocks to the August meeting. If you
have yours complete, you can bring them to the July meeting and I will keep
them until I have everyones and then I will organize them so that everyone has
a complete set.
FYI: We now have 60 members and still searching
for more!
Design Committee….Pat Powell
Hello from
the Design Committee! First, let me
thank everyone for their help on the two work days. Also, thanks to all of you who are selling
tickets and bringing your money.
We hope to
have the top together and ready for you to see by July meeting. Then off to the quilter! If you, or anyone you know, are interested in
binding the quilt, please let me know.
Reminder: If you haven’t turned in your money for your
20 tickets, please do so ASAP.
Hostess Chairman…Lequida Jennings
We want to
thank all the June hostesses, Gwen Karney, Sylvia Martin, Wyvonne McDaniel and
Lequida Jennings for the salad supper.
It seems that salads are good all year round, but they seem really
refreshing in the summer months.
July
hostesses are Ann Minyard, Debi Morris, June Moyers and Sharlyn Parent. (Remember, it’s your responsibility to trade
with someone else if you are unable to serve on your scheduled month.)
Sharing the
recipes in our newsletter has been a great success, so when you bring your food
to serve your month, please just bring a copy of your recipe so I can include
it in the next newsletter. Thanks so
much to you wonderful cooks and quilters.
