Lone
Star Heritage Quilt Guild July Meeting Our web
site- www.goecities.com/lshqg A Note From Our President… Dear
Fellow Quilters:
What
a great time we all had at the Quilt Walk as part of the sesquicentennial
celebration. We did get just a tad wet during set up, but then
beautiful skies made a great backdrop for all the lovely homes and beautiful
quilts. I was truly surprised by the amount of people who ventured out
to view all the quilts--especially since it was a holiday weekend! Some
people did just drive by slowly, but others took advantage of the occasion
and "did the walk". Lots of compliments, oohs and aahs, and
"do it again" was heard more than once. Gwen also sold quite
a few tickets for our donation quilt while she was set up at the library.
For those of you who were a part of the day, please be sure to write a
thank you note to your host and express our thanks for the use of their
home. If you signed up, but didn't make it, let me know and I'll take
care of those. Another
reminder that if you want to be a part of the "Old Glory"
workshop on Saturday, August 14th, you need to have your money ready at
our guild meeting this month. Cost is $30 with lunch provided.
I'll give you a supply list when I receive your payment. We're going to
have a great time. I
anticipate that our quilt show leaders will have specific duties outlined for
you to choose an area in which you will be comfortable to work in for our
quilt show. I know that it is easier to volunteer your time if you know
specifically what you need to do rather than just a general "we need
volunteers" thing. The committee chairs the past couple of
years have written down everything that has to be done, so it will be easier
for each of us to find our niche. I
hope you are finding some time to get to one quilting project or
another. This hot summer weather sure makes it hard to put a lot of
fabric in your lap, but maybe you have a project or two that is cool and easy
to do. I
hope you are having a great summer and get to spend time with family and
friends! Until our meeting on the 26th......................

Librarian…Billie
Ruth Standbridge If you really want a challenging pattern, check
out NEW YORK BEAUTY by award winning designer Mabeth Oxenreider using
paper piecing and very dramatic fabrics. It's in Fon's & Porter's
July/August issue. There are any number of other really neat quilts,
with directions, that I think you'll enjoy looking at and getting ideas
from. Also, they have several competitions that you can enter. In the Quilter's
Newsletter Magazine, check out 2003 Tulips, by a Bristol, England
quilter, pg 90. You applique specialist will love it. I'll have
other books and magazines out on the table. We've got such a library
ladies. It's yours for the asking. Quilt Committee Fabulous Quilt Walk. Very disappointing that
I (Billie Ruth) didn't get to be there until the last few minutes, but that's
why group effort is so important. That's how we get things done. Ladies, come early with your quilts to the next
guild meeting if you want your quilt(s) hung and pictures taken to
accompany your ENTRY FORM. Remember how important the picture is.
That's the first thing the judges’ see. Deanna and I will open
the building at 4:00 pm and she will be there with her trusty
camera ready to do a fabulous job for you. If you have already taken your
pictures, DO NOT write your name on the front of the picture. When
the judges look at your picture, they are not to see your name. That
will go on the back with the name of the quilt. For those of you who turned yours in at the
beginning on the old form, I will bring the book of entries so that
we can add the additional information: size, category and of course, I'll still
need yours pictures. If you have the info and want to email it, I'll go
ahead and add it. Get your ENTRY FORMS in, even if it's without the
pictures. Those can be put in as soon as they are developed.. ENTRY FORM, just
go to our website www.goecities.com/lshqg
and print off as many of the new entries as you need. If you want to stay
with the old form, turn page 2 over and write in the (1) dimensions (2) check
quilt or wall hanging (3) check proper category. Make sure that if you do not
want your quilt judged, that you check exhibit. Wall hangings can be Traditional or
Artistic. All you have to do is check Wall Hangings. Any other question email
me; [email protected] or ask me at
the Guild meeting. Submitted by: Billie Ruth Standbridge FALL FESTIVAL SHOW
2005 Put on your thinking caps ladies, I know it
may be strange to start bringing up the Fall Festival Show for 2005, but if
we intend to continue with the idea of a “Feature” quilts, then we need to
think of what we want now. Major, important items are sometimes booked 1,2or
even 3 years in advance. Do you know of something that you think would be a
major drawing card to our show? I already have people asking me what the
special quilt will be this year, because they were so impressed with last
year’s “The Supper Quilt”. It was at Rose Hillsamer suggestion last
fall that caused us to pursue the “American Spirit Collection”, a collection
of wall-hangings and quilts that were made up to commemorate 911. It’s a very
emotional display that has traveled the country every since they were made
up. We were barely able to get it committed to us back in October. So you can
see how important it is that if we are to have something with strong public
appeal, we really have to start early. In formalizing
some of our plans, we wanted you to be aware of the following 2 item: 1) For the Show
please prepare to dress in something long, skirt or dress and perhaps
add an apron and just a regular blouse will be fine. 2) Does
everybody have a silk plant they can bring to the Show? We need
something at the foot of the stands so that people don't trip on them.
We need about 45. Let us know at the Guild mtg. if you will be able to
bring one or two. Thanks...DH & BR Submitted by: Billie Ruth Standbridge Printing
