A Note From Our President…

 Dear Guild Members:

The summer is flying by and I hope you've had at least a few moments to spare to do some quilting.  I need to work on a baby quilt for a friend--but I'll bet the baby beats me to the draw!!

Of course, our main focus as a guild for the next 4-5 weeks will be on finalizing plans for our quilt show.  And--along those lines--I need to hopefully quiet some fears.  We are not increasing the size of the quilt show (we don't even have our 112 quilts as of this writing).  We have had to turn away vendors and we don't have any more jobs for us to do than we did last year.  Some of the jobs have been revamped a little to help make the setup and take down more efficient and secure for our displayers.

The information that we are trying to become a "little Paducah" is false and the projects that Deanna and Billie Ruth are working on are self-inflicted and areas that they enjoy pursuing on their own.  They do a great job at PR and have gotten several important FREE promotions for us.

I digress.  We need ALL hands on board--all 83 members to put on the type of show our community has come to expect from us!!!  1st we need your quilts.  As I stated earlier--as of this writing, we don't even have the 112 quilts committed yet to do a full show.

2nd--we need you to help in whatever area you are comfortable in.  Please don't think, "Oh, I'll just show up and fill in wherever I'm needed."  It makes the board members and quilt chairs nervous not knowing whether we'll have enough people to carry out our plans.

Please know and realize that each of you is an important part of our guild and as with any organization, it takes all of our different talents to make up the wonderful fabric of our guild.

By the time you read this, I'm confident that several of us will have had a great workshop with Rita Runquist. We'll have things to show you at our meeting on the 23rd.

                                                              Sincerely, Jan

Texas Association of Quilt Guilds:

Peggie Wilkinson and I attended the TAAG meeting on Tuesday, August 10.  Peggie went to the secondary meeting for newsletter editors, and I am sure she came away with some good ideas.  The main meeting was mostly a summary of Rally Day and ways to improve.  It was reported that attendance was approximately 850.  A Denton guild member won the Bernina, and a Lewisville guild member won the machine given away by Sharmans.  There were 66 miniatures quilts in the silent auction, and they brought a total of $1,739 with the high going for $75.  Our three brought a total of $95, and I want to thank Jan Bartley and Pat Sparks once again - thank you, thank you!

Next year the Rally Day will be July 16 at the brand new Eisemann Center in Richardson.  It should be a much, much better facility than the Harvey Center in Tyler - better seating, acoustics, and large screen for viewing.  The speaker is Joan Wolfrom (on color).  The hosts are the Plano, McKinney, and Frisco guilds.  Rally Day 2006 will be hosted by the Lewisville guild.

There was a discussion on having a TAAG information table at the Houston quilt show to recruit guilds in other areas of Texas to form branches of TAAG, such as a South Texas branch, etc.

Respectfully submitted,

 Gwen Karney

I won a lovely book at the Tyler Rally on paper piecing called Foundation Piecer, with beautiful patterns.  Not anything I could do in this lifetime, so if paper piecing is your thing, it will be at the library table for check out
