REMINDER!!!!                 GARAGE SALE—

------SATURDAY--APRIL17

A Note From Our President…

Dear Fellow Quilters:

Can you believe that 1/3 of our year is already gone? And isn’t spring glorious!!! By the time you receive this, our garage sale will be history and I know that it will have been a very successful one----all because of your commitment to our guild.

The next project will be our participation at the Heritage Park on May 8th. This day takes the least amount of work and is so enjoyable because we can bring handwork and visit while we answer questions from the public as they enjoy our quilt display. The areas we need help in for this day are: set up, loaning of your quilts for the display, setting with the display, selling tickets for our donation quilt and take down. Please be prepared to sign up in the area you can help with at our next meeting. We’ll have sign-up sheets ready for you.

I hope you were able to go to either the Dallas or Tyler Quilt show. Be getting ready for ours by working on your entry for the show.

             See you on the 26th!

             Jan

Vice President of Programs…Carolyn Tosh

Thanks to Jo Parrot for the program and demo for the Cathedral Window. Plus the trunk show she shared with us.

The Color Wash Trip Around The World workshop dates are: May 15th and June 19th. If you have not signed up, be sure and do so as we need to know how many to plan for plus our space is limited.

April Program:

April program will be presented by Alice and Yvonne from Country Junction in Willis Point. They will show us how to do the “May West Vest”. The Supply list for those who wish to make the vest that night is:

1 yd Batting

1 yd Fabric for outside

1 yd Lining

½ yd contrast for bias—Please have this cut in 2” strips

Scissors—Velcro—rotary cutter—machine and thread.

Country Junction will have a booth in the Terrell show for those of you who plan to attend. They will have fabric available that works great with this vest.

 Membership Secretary…Sharon Callahan

Hi Everyone, hasn't the weather been great.  I'm hoping it holds for that wonderful day at the park, "Stuarts Park”. That’s right, the GARAGE/BAKE SALE is right around the corner, April 17th.  I'm looking forward to seeing each one of you and all the wonderful items you bring.  We will be starting at 6:30 a.m., and we need your help.  I would like to thank all of you who have been working behind the scenes with advertising (Deanna) and for the Great flyers (Patsy).  This truly is the most fun day of the year.

Please remember to price all of your items, as there won't
be time on the morning of the 17th.

I would like to welcome Betty Hammock, a previous member and
Myrt Waller a New Member.  I get so excited as our Guild continues to grow and we have the opportunity to meet more and more people who live in our community and believe in what we do.  We now have 69 members.

We have another Fons and Porter magazine available for check out.  Remember to look over the patterns as well as the books.  As I mentioned before, if you have any patterns, labeled with your name, that you are willing to share on a check out basis, please bring them and add to the group that we have.  Maybe I'll have some new things to share from Paducah.

What a beautiful spring we are having! Hope everyone is enjoying it and feeling awesome.

Two items this month are on my mind.

Ticket sales. If you haven’t gotten your packet, please do so, but not during the business meeting. Remember all members are required to purchase or sell $20.00 in tickets. I am not sure what the penalty would be but I wouldn’t want to risk it! Just kidding of course. Please return your stubs and your money to me so you will be given credit for your sales. On the envelope write your name and the amount enclosed. IF you have taken the quilt to an event, please include that information so we can track successful events. I will record that information and pass all along to Gwen Karney.

Starting this month we will have the wonderful hopper (our very own Ticket Tumbler) that Tommy Powell, Pat Powell’s husband made for us. It will be at each meeting so we can see our sales growth.

Donation quilt squares. It is very important that all squares be turned in by April meeting. The workday is set for Wednesday, May 5 at 10 am. Sandwiches, cookies, and drinks will be provided so please come and experience the fun of working together. It is one of the best things about our guild. We will be meeting at the educational building of the Our Savior Lutheran Church, at the corner of Texas and Peach. This is where the day circle meets and a great place to work. We thank Cecilia Anderson for making this available to us.

Please turn in all ticket sales or quilt squares either before or after the business meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Pat Pillard

BAKE SALE   I want to thank each lady for volunteering to bake and donate to the Bake Sale for April 17th. We need baked items early on the morning of April 17th (Saturday). Please do the drop-off the day before. They are Jo Gossett, Bettie Hammock, and Peggie Wilkinson.

Fall Festival Quilt Committee......Billie Ruth Standbridge

I went with Gwen Karney to the last TAQG meeting to attend a session on "How to Put on a Quilt Show".  Many good ideas and lots of questions.  Our Quilt Committee met Monday before the board meeting to refine our Entry Form and we will be following with a training session in the latter part of April.  The lady who has chaired the Tyler Quilt Show for the last 3 years will be the resource person and we will be meeting with some of the Greenville quilters who want to start their own show.  Tyler has been putting on their show for 23 years.  I realize our goals and restrictions aren't exactly the same as Tyler's but there are some commonalities that I feel sure that we can benefit from.

So many brought quilts for the beautiful spring flowers display at West Side Plaza..  Many thanks to all the helpers:  Pat Harrington, Pat Sparks, Joy Rutledge and Emma Williams.  A lady wanted to buy Jan's Dutch Doll quilt in last month's display.  The cook at the Plaza restaurant wants one of Ashbaker's log cabin heart quilts.  If there's anybody out there who wants to follow up on any of these leads, I'll be glad to give you the names.  I can't say that either of them said what they would pay.  We're getting so much good feedback about the window displays.  I think it's pretty phenomenal that we have now been doing this for over a year.  Who would've thought?   We missed Deanna and her talented touch, but her mother is quite ill and she was not able to come to town at that time.

Beginning Quilt Class - Billie Ruth Standbridge

Beginners' Class.....Ms. Billie

I'm so sorry I won't be here for your class and I'm so sorry Jade that you and your mom came to the Guild meeting on the wrong day.  We missed you in our class.  Some of you are working on things of your own, so please continue.  For those of you who have not started a project, how about having at least one or more 4 patches made. or a 9 patch, maybe something that can be made into a pillow?  As soon as you have something finished it goes on display in the windows at the West Side Plaza

Window Display in West Side Plaza Deanna Hasten

Flowers are blooming and bunnies are hopping at the windows for April. For the month of May, the them will be MOTHERS ---which includes quilts made by your mothers, grandmothers, etc. and also quilts you have made for your mothers and grandchildren, and so on.

Please write a full descriptive story because those who view the quilts really enjoy the details on each one.

If you have a pillow, stuffed toy or something similar with a family history, please bring those also to the April 26th Guild meeting.

Thank you all for your generosity in sharing with us.
