July 2002

From the President:

Hello Ladies,
The 4th has come and gone. Hope you had a fun, safe holiday.

Eight of us: Roberta, Elaine, Colleen, Ethel, Dale, Deanna, Shirley, and I, enjoyed meeting with the Greenville guild and veiwing the quilted art of the Last Supper, entitled "The Supper Quilt" by retired dentist, Dr. Don Locke. Dr. Locke shared interesting stories about his 2 ½ year effort in bringing this 19 foot long mammoth project to fruition. He had no idea how this work was going to effect the rest of his life. After the Dallas and Houston quilt shows, it was taken to Barcelona, Spain and is currently scheduled for England and France, to say nothing of numerous places throughout the U.S.. It is already scheduled thru 2003. He told us that he frequently stands a little distance from the quilt at shows to listen to the comments. Two Amish ladies were viewing the quilt and one said" I understand there are over 50,000 pieces in this quilt." The other lady replied " He needs to get a life." Out of the eight of us who were there, I might mention that Roberta, Elaine and Shirley are members of the Greenville guild.

The evening circle is now meeting at Roberta's newly completed quilt house. We extend an invitation to any of you who wish to join us on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday at 7 p.m. Directions are provided at the end of the newsletter. Roberta's number is 903-945-3483.

The third panel (green) has been delivered to the liobrary and the 4th panel (red) will be on display at the next guild meeting (July 22) Remember, next month's blocks are 2 pink and 2 purple.

Don't forget ladies, display your Show and Tell about the room so that we can get maximum enjoyment from your projects.

Be sure and turn any raffle ticket money into Wanda, our treasurer. Remember, each guild member is responsible for a minmum of $20 in sales, and I want to thank those of you who have sold much more than that. The more we sell, the more we can give to the community and can commit to our program budget. In the long run, we all benefit.

If you know a member(s) who has missed, give her a call and let her know that she is missed and that her presence is important to us. There is nothing better than a personal invitation. Remeber, each individual is "The Friendship Committee".
See you at Guild …..

Special Events:
It's time to focus on our guild quilt show during Fall Festival in September! Please be thinking of ways you would like to be involved, and there are many areas! We need members for contacting quilt shops, possible vendors, and set-up and take-down to name a few. What a great opportunity to promote and preserve the art of quilting in our community!
