Star Heritage Quilt Guild Meeting Our web
site- www.goecities.com/lshqg A Note From Our President… Dear
Quilting Friends:
Don't you just love this wonderful fall air? Makes me want to
quilt-quilt-quilt!!! I hope you get to work on your projects as much as
you'd like.
I was able to schedule a workday to work on the serger quilts that Lois
Grossman is so prolific with. We will get together at the Senior
Citizens Center on Saturday, October 30 at
Be thinking about Christmas (ugh!) and if you would prefer to have a gift
exchange among guild members or pool our money ($5 ??) and adopt a military
family or donate to Empty Stocking or some other worthy project. The
idea was brought up at our board meeting and we will let the membership
decide at the next meeting.
Speaking of board meetings--we had a very productive one. We had a
great session evaluating the quilt show and we appreciate all your
feedback. There were some things we hadn't thought of. I think
Billie Ruth can give us a report of the most evident changes or great ideas
we might incorporate in the future. Thanks again for all your hard
work. I think we did an outstanding job!!
A slate of officers for the new year will be presented at the next meeting
and nominations can also be made from the floor. The slate will be
published in the next newsletter and then voted on at the November
meeting.
Your officers are working on the proposed budget for next year. If you have
a concern about where your guild money is spent or where you would like to
see us spend more, please let any of the officers know. Remember---it's
your guild.
Here's to a great autumn season for all and a spooky Halloween to you!

Guest that was welcomed was: Bobby McDonald, Polly Swatsell promoted the Sesquicentennial Heritage Cookbook. Patsy Crist’s daughter and 4 of her granddaughters, Peggy Nelson, Dot Essex and Jacelyn Wilkinson. Forty-six members were present. Our Guild has 86 members. Minutes were approved. Gwen reported $ 1,400.00 was made on the cookbooks, $ 942.00 on the donation quilt at show and a total of $3,230.00 on the donation quilt for the year, $680.05 from the boutique, $2,750.00 from the auction of 8 quilts, and $40 hospitality. Carolyn Tosh said our program for October would be a Round Robin. Sharon Callahan recognized those who have had birthdays from May through September and each received a fat quarter. Pat Pillard told us a video was made about our Ouilt Show and members may purchase one. Vada Gooding sold more tickets for the donation quilt again this year. We have 100 yards of fabric from a textile firm. Joy Anderson won the donation quilt. Deanna and Billie Ruth thanked everyone for their help with the show and had special recognition for the men who helped. Quilts were hung in 1 hour and were taken down in 22 minutes. We had 2,890 come to see the quilts, and 60 counties, 15 states and 2 foreign countries were represented. Several Guild members presented different techniques of quilting at the State Fair. Rose Hillsamer’s quilt was selected to be shown in the Houston Quilt Show. Indian

Trolley driver needed money to be able to go to the doctor so the Guild gave $200.00. Carroll, Alice, and Naomie from the Wills Point Quilt shop did a program on how to make a Christmas Tree using Snippets technique. Hostesses for October: Billie Ruth

Ruth Standbridge Reporter/Publicist…Deanna Hasten Publicity/Historian - The Quilt Show photos are back
and the 2004 quilt show scrapbook will be ready for you to see at the October
guild meeting.....what great memories we have of that fantastic show, thanks
to all the work done by our great volunteers! (We have probably already
forgotten about those tired feet!) There are photos, also, of our
quilting demonstration at the State Fair of Texas, which turned out to be
three hours instead of two......there was lots of interest in the techniques
being shown, and we have been asked to return to next year's
fair..........good job, everyone!

Committee Report…Pat Pillard
The
quilt is now completed, thanks to all who helped. We met on Oct 7 to hand sew
the binding and that is definitely the way. What would have taken one-person
hours, with five of us sewing took less than two! Of course Joy Rutledge is
twice as fast as the rest of us, and does beautiful work to boot. Bettie
Hammock joined us and made the label for our quilt and we are especially
thankful. It is great to have people in our guild who are talented and
helpful. Gwen Karney filled in for Cecilia Anderson, who is on vacation. Pat
Sparks and myself brought the number to five. Never
again I hope do I plan to sew a binding on without a few more needles. I
wonder how many times do we do alone something made so much fun with the
addition of helping, friendly hands. We will display for your approval at the
next meeting. Does anyone have a copy of “Baltimore
Beauties Part One” by Elly Sienkiewicz? I need it for a class I am taking in Are you enjoying your guild cookbook?
I am. Such a good job those gals have done for us. If you didn’t get one do
so
Respectfully submitted, Pat Pillard Design Chairperson Hostess
Chairman…Patsy Crist Hello Dear Ladies: Hello everyone! We are
having a beautiful fall and it is an exciting and energetic time of year
when we all begin our Holiday Planning for our families. This year
when making your Christmas list - remember our Guild Cook Books. They
are continuing to sell, but we still need a joint effort to sell all of
them. I plan to give cookbooks to my nieces and sister-in-laws with a
home made apron this year. I will continue to bring
cookbooks to each meeting until they are all gone. Buy a few at a time
each month -- they will make wonderful gifts year round. Last month we had a lovely, fun meeting. A special
thanks to Sherry Shockley, last month's hostess coordinator, for
ushering in the Fall theme with her very good Gumbo. Followed by
additional recipes of side dishes & desserts by other hostesses.
They were; Joy Rutledge, Pat Sparks, and Elaine Sprague. Thank you
ladies for a lovely fall menu. We all enjoyed. Next month for our Oct. 25th meeting hostesses will
be: Billie Ruth -
coordinator, Ruby Stone, Tammy Olague, Donna Rankin, and Jean Thurman. We look forward to sampling your snacks
& recipes. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us! On the personal
side, my daughter Jeannie & grand daughters enjoyed the meeting last
month. Thanks to everyone for being so friendly & nice. Jeannie is in the process
of making a Chili Pepper Wall Hanging grouping of 3. It was looking
beautiful. Have a wonderful fall and
see you girls on Oct. 25th. Submitted by: HOSTESS CHAIRPERSON - PATSY CRIST Quilters’ Bulletin Board General
