Definitely Say No to Jack Merridew

    Remember when Jack and his mob were chanting "Kill the pig. Cut his throat. Bash him in."? Remember when the mob forgot the signal and left the fire unattended and let it gone out... there was a ship! Jack should not be the president of this island, because he, in many ways, is careless, selfish, and strifeful.

    At the first meeting, we agreed to have a fire on the mountain so that vessels or flying crafts nearby will notice us. The job was planned by Ralph, the president, and coordinated by Jack. At first, we couldn't think of anything to burn; later, Jack suggested that Piggy's "specs - [should be used]... as burning glasses!'" Piggy's glasses were snatched violendy by Jack.

    Although some may argue the glasses were essential for lighting a fire, there should be no necessity for these actions when acquiring the material! Later, The fire was lighted, and burned for quite a while, until one night when Jack left with the so-called "hunters" to "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood." The fire finally died out of negligence of the coordinators; and when we were thinking of practicing projecting the objective (food), you know what Jack was suggesting? He wanted to "use a litdun!"

    At most meetings, Jack ignores and challenges the authority of the conch. Did he ever do everything widi our acquiescence? The acts of Jack when he was leaving the fire unguarded (mentioned above) was not only careless, but also defying, all our controls over the island. During the duration of the assembly, while the others were having the conch, Jack, sees the mandatory respect to the conch-holder (even when Ralph is talking) to be zero. At the meeting "Fire on the Mountain," Jack didn't obey commands we asked him to obey: "... let the fire burn out now... who would see smoke at night-time, anyway?"; at the meeting when Ralph was talking about sanitation: "... if you're taken short... keep away from the fruit. That's dirty!"" While his words was coming out of his mouth, "Jack stood up, scowling in the gloom, and held out his hands.v" Ralph stated that he have not finished yet. Although the conch was held by Ralph, Jack scorned, "But you've talked and talked!" An impatient, non-leader type person would say that. These selfish, unacceptable, and undemocratic behaviors should not be tolerated.

    He cares only about himself, he is the one, who let the fire go out; he's selfish, violent, belligerent, tyrannical and careless; and there should be no doubt that he is not a good enough person to become the president of this island. Here's what you could do: Tomorrow, remember to vote "Ralph/Piggy" on row "A/Conch," to protect our lives from being totally controlled by the "Big Brother."
