The Real Definition of "Phony"

"He is such a phony person," my friend told me when I was having lunch. I didn't know what it was, so I consulted the instructor of my English class. "Something that is phony is fake." However, "Will you leave me so unsatisfied?"

Therefore, I refered from The Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Tenth Edition. A phony, it described, is something "marked by empty pretension."

If someone performs "NASCAR writing," (V. Gokturk) while not writing much on a reading comprehension examination, one is described as a phony, and that states that phony is not only used as an adjective, but also as a noun.

To my knowledge, one telephone company in New York who promised that if no service is availible, they would not charge the affected customers; "No hidden charges", they pledged. However, after the September 11 attacks, the phone services were interrupted, and the telephone company still charges the users. We would describe their pledge as phony.

In conclusion, a phony is someone or something that is not true, not real, etc.
