Page 255 - "About the year 1857 Andrew Orlow and John Oviatt established a wagon and blacksmith shop on the farm of Andrew Oviatt, where they did the work in this line for all the people in that part of the country. They also manufactured a number of good wagons. This was the only manufacturing concern that Cass Township ever had."
Page 256 - "The first members [of the M.E. Church] were Andrew Oviatt and wife, Orlow Oviatt and wife . . ." Organized in February, 1880; now called Liberty Church.
Page 258 - Hugh Oviatt was one of the current [1914] trustees of Cass Township.

Arch Oviatt was b. in Cass Twp., Dec. 23, 1867, the son of Andrew and Eunice (Williams) Oviatt. Andrew was a native of Mass. Andrew and Eunice's eldest son, Coral, d. in 1858 on the way to Iowa. Andrew died in Cass Township in Sept. 1893. Eunice, b. in Painesville, [Lake Co.] Ohio; d. "here" in 1902. The nine children of Andrew and Eunice Oviatt, 6 living, in order of birth:

3. Mrs. Henrietta Marsh, res. Chicago, Ill.
4. Mrs. Eva Graves, of Cass Twp.
5. Arch

7. Nettie, d. ae 4 yrs.
8. Martha, res. Woodward, Dallas Co., Iowa
9. Hugh, of Cass Twp.
The two oldest were born in Ohio, the rest in Cass Townhip.
Arch was engaged in farming and stock raising. Married in Whiteside Co., Illinois in 1896 to Mary Marschand, who was born in Whiteside County on Feb. 28, 1867 to John and Mary (Wilger) Marschand. Arch and Mary had 3 children, all b. in Cass Township:
1. L.D., b. Sept 29, 1898
2. E.C., b. Jan. 15, 1902
3. M.M., b. June 24, 1906
