The Pakistan Connection

For many years, Western governments trained and armed
radical Muslim rebels in their fight against the Soviet backed Communist
government in Afghanistan. The C.I.A. personally trained thousands of Muslims
how to blow up bridges and buildings, to launch missiles at air-planes
(domestic and military), and to run covert operations. In short, we equipped and
trained an army of "holy warriors" for Islam who had declared a Jihad
against Communism. And now that Islam has an army of radical zealots
trained and equipped by West, Muslims all over the Middle East are declaring
that it is time to bring the Christian West to its knees! And they will use the
very arms given to them by the West to tight communism national Newspaper
(4/8/93) reported, under the heading, "Radical Arabs Use Pakistan as Base
For Holy War,"
Now, a year after victorious
but feuding Afghan rebels entered Kabul, Pakistan is left with the remnants of
the war: radical Arabs who were once welcome here because they fought alongside
Afghans, but who now want to use Pakistan or Afghan territory to spread the
jihad or holy war, to their own homelands, (p. A3)
The London Times
reported on March 14, Western security experts noted that the war in
Afghanistan has left behind what one described as "a virtual band of
Islamic mercenaries, highly motivated, militarily hardened and ready to take
action almost anywhere in the cause of Islam.
Islam now has a trained army ready to murder Christians living in Muslim countries such as Egypt and Pakistan and to topple moderate North African Muslim countries such as Algeria. Their goal is to unify Islam under one banner and then to attack the West.
It is thus no surprise to
discover from the International Herald Tribune (4/39/93) that the men accused
of bombing the World Trade building such as Mahmud Abohalima were trained in
Afghanistan. Even Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman himself spent time in Pakistan. The
Muslim who shot the C.I.A. employees lied to Pakistan and from there to
Afghanistan. Even the assassinations of government officials and killings of
tourists in Egypt have been traced back to Pakistan.
