| A Reduction is essentially a study guide for preparation for the AP test in May. We read some of our novels months ahead of time, so the Reduction will allow you to quickly, yet thoroughly, review for the AP test. The reduction sheet is ONE-PAGE only. All of your information should be placed on one side of an 8 ? x 11 piece of unlined paper. THE PAGE SHOULD BE FILLED COMPLETELY WITH INFORMATION - ANY SPACE LEFT WHITE/EMPTY IS WASTED POTENTIAL. A reduction is a personalized review sheet that reflects an entire literary work and helps you retain the content. If you use this technique for other disciplines, it could reflect a particular chapter. The reduction should be self-selected and all-inclusive. It should include all of the relevant details, symbols, themes, thoughts that you will need for future reference. Your creation should be so comprehensive that months after its creation, the reduction will recreate and recapture the essence of its intended focus. YOUR REDUCTION MUST CONTAIN: At least two quotes and their significance The author and title Themes DO NOT plagiarize summary material from on-line or other sources. These should be your thoughts in your own words - that is how this will be most beneficial to you. Plagiarism will result in the loss of points and likely failure of the assignment. DO NOT use sentences. You may use words, phrases, or quotes. You may use pictures or symbols. Organize the material in some manner that facilitates your retention of key concepts. OTHER POSSIBLE ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION (Choose at least three): Pertinent or relevant background information about the author Title significance Genre Characters/role/relationships to one another and the significance of them Highlights of plot(s) Writing style (language, organization or structure, sentence types) Setting(s) - beginning/ending/atmosphere - significance Literary techniques Narration/voice Symbols |
