who ate my icecream?

Kurama stared miserably at the wood grain of his desk, his pencil lying abandoned several inches from his fingertips. It had been a stupid thing to do. He admitted that it had been a stupid thing to do. But the sun had been so warm and the breeze so balmy, the scent of his companion's skin, intoxicating. He had barely been able to resist taking other liberties, let alone restraining himself from making that one tiny movement towards Hiei's face, taking what was his.

Hiei had stared in wordless shock for some time. Kurama's hands had flown to his mouth and he'd retreated hastily, pulling back from all contact with the fire demon.

"Oh, Hiei... oh, I'm sorry! Please, let me--"

But the demon was gone, flitting into the treetops faster even than Kurama's eyes could follow him. All he left behind him was a dark, mistrustful glare and a faint impression on the grass he had been sitting on.

It had been a small thing, really. It shouldn't have been such a problem. But for Hiei... for Hiei, it had obviously been quite a great deal more than he was prepared to allow for. Kurama sighed and his lips pressed together in a frown. His hand stretched out half-heartedly for the pencil, fingers stretching slightly... but no, he couldn't bring himself to do homework. Not now.

Kurama pushed back his chair. It squeaked slightly on the polished floorboards.

He grabbed a jacket and yelled a farewell to his mother before continuing down the darkening street, towards the park where he hoped the fire demon would be sleeping. He wasn't sure if Hiei would let him talk, but if so...

Kurama, lost in thought, barely realised where his feet were taking him. When they came to a doorstep, he looked up in surprise. A smile overtook his face. A light jingle sounded as he pushed open the door.

Half an hour later, Hiei peered down through the branches of the oak tree he had taken up residence in for the night. Kurama was standing beneath the tree, gazing up through the branches with concerned green eyes. Hiei knew that the fox could see him.

"Hiei?" The red head called lightly. "Hiei, I... I brought you something. Please come down?"

Hiei snorted and glared down at the other demon suspiciously for a moment. Then in a ripple of dark material, he landed at the foot of the tree beside Kurama.

The red head was watching the ground. "I wanted to apologise to you. So, I brought you this."

Kurama held up his arms and removed his jacket from its perch on top of a large container. Hiei's eyes widened to the size of small planets, pupils seeming to narrow to dots. Kurama knelt down before the fire demon.

"Hiei... I thought I was entitled to... just a lick. But, perhaps I was wrong. For you." He said simply.

Hiei stared for a while, then held out his hands reverently for the carton of ice cream. "Forgiven." He said quickly. Kurama looked up in surprise and some amusement.

"That's it?"

"Give-me-the-damn-sweet-snow."

Kurama allowed the carton to be whisked out of his hands with a smile. Hiei tore off the lid, then stood there for a split second, somehow sensing that it would be inappropriate to just hack into the box of ice cream while his friend was waiting there.

"I said I forgive you." He said, a little reproachfully. Kurama grinned and stood up, swinging his jacket over his shoulder. Resting a hand on the fire demon's neck, he swooped in and brushed his lips gently over Hiei's.

"I heard you. Goodnight, koi."

For the second time that day, Kurama left a very stunned fire demon in his wake. Not bad, for a Tuesday.
