This is only one painting but it is meant to be seen from all directions, hence the four views. It is also meant to be mounted on a spinnable support allowing the viewer to spin it and to hear the sounds it produces. I was motivated into painting this in 1993 by the news reports concerning the atrocities that were ocurring in Bosnia and the fact that the world powers were (at the time) not doing anything to stop them. With this painting I was able to get rid of some of my frustrations of just being a passive observer and unwilling witness. I took action and painted this...it didn't save anyone, I know, but...it constantly saves a part of me from becoming detached, specially when other conflicts arise in other parts of the world. It keeps me from saying "Well, that's their problem... let them kill each other..." and turning my back on innocent people.
