A Brief History of the Models
Working as a consultant to the Okeechobee School District, Dr. Jack Foley developed an improvement process related to improving student performance in mathematics and reading
as evidenced by improved test scores.
The Florida Department of Education provided grants that assisted in the development and implementation of the instructional models.  These models systematically align content and best teaching practices with the Sunshine State Standards.
Teams of teachers, with administrative representation, were organized at each Okeechobee County school to participate in the process.  The framework for each model was designed by Beth Foley with teacher input.
The first models were for grades K-10 Mathematics.  The next instructional models were for grades K-10 Reading and finally Interdisciplinary/Reading for World History (grade 10), Geography (grade 9), and Social Studies (grades 6/7/8) were developed.
Since implementation, test scores have continued to rise.  Now more than ten districts have schools participating in implementing selected instructional models.
Dr. Jack Foley is available to provide initial orientation sessions to interested schools or districts.
