| A storm crept over the barren land like a stalker following a victim. However, stalkers attack one person; the storm destroyed everything in its path. It was a black knight on his warhorse, crushing all beneath it. Unfortunately for the storm there was not much to destroy. Sand whipped up only more sand from the pathetic dunes dotting the surroundings. The tallest things around besides the craggy mountains on the horizon were cacti and dying animals. They were the tallest, with the exception of a blackend fortress rising from the gray sand. It was a blood drenched sword sticking from a corpse; a larger blight on a dead land. The bricks making up the keep were crumbling into dust, riding off to join the sand. Bones littered the ground surrounding the keep, yellow with age, they too degenerating into soil. Spiraling up from the stronghold, towers rose, twisted and corrupted things. Hanging from the edges and the roofs of these abominations were monsters carved from stone. Gargoyles and demons roared silently into the night, day by day, slipping further from their foundations. One such creature fell, screaming in silent hatred as it flew through the air, and shattered as it hit the ground. A chunk of masonry was dislodged from the wall by a stray stone. Instantly a pair of glimmering red eyes peered through the newly created gap. Tittering to itself, the creature looked out to the wreckage; the gargoyle was nothing but a pile of pebbles. With what could be considered to be a sigh, the creature turned from the hole and leap from the pair of shoulders it was standing on. Landing on the stone floor of the keep the creature swore. More sets of red eyes appeared in the gloom staring down at him. "Gary has fallen!" It cried to its fellows. "Gary?" Another pair of eyes questioned. "Yes Gary, he's nothing more than gravel now" stated the first pair of eyes. "Gary the bird headed?" asked a third. "Yes! Gary the bird headed! What other Gary do you know of!?" yelled the first pair of eyes. "Well there was lightning Gary, you know, the chap with the thunderbolt in his hands." Stated the second " Yes, and there was Gary the dog headed, the fellow with the bone lodged in his snout." Added a fourth "NO! They have been gone for decades now! What in the nine hells is the matter with you louts?!" Exclaimed the first "No need to yell Felix*" said the second " I told you never to call me that!" Cried Felix. " Anyhow, if there are no more questions" he glared scathingly to the rest of the eyes. " We should inform the master." *Felix, unlike the other Ferals was extremely high strung. Being born from a mother hanging upside down on a clothesline could do that to you. Hes "friends" lovingly said he would be the first Ferals to die from a heart attack |
