It was unexpected that Don Quixote and his companion would continue their adventures after so many mishaps. However, one must remember who we are talking about.
Several days after the " Adventure of the Windmills" they came across a rabbit as they trekked throug hthe plains. They were both half starved and such an appearance was nothing short of a miracle.
"Look there!" Shouted Don Quixote to his loyal squire. " A terrible beast is upon us!."
As he spoke he lept from his horse and held his hand out to Sancho.
" Quickly my friend, my sword, hand it to me so that I can slay this horrific creature before us before it takes it upon itself to attack us."
" Your worship," said Sancho, " the beast you speak of is a rabbit, you should remain quiet of you wish to kill it."
Once said, Sancho handed Don Quixote his sword; quietly smiling to himself as he did so.
" Nonsense!" Shouted Don Quixote. " Can you not see its razor sharp fangs and its bloodly claws? DIE FOUL BEAST"
Don Quixote screamed, swinging his sword in a deadly arch that would cleave the poor animal in half. The rabbit was swift however, Quixote's screaming had alerted it to the threat and sent it scampering away. Quixote's sword sunk deep into the dirt and became throughly stuck.
" Did I not tell you it was a rabbit, your worship?" Sancho said, still smiling slightly as he helped Quixote to his feet.
" A craven creature, whatever it was," said Quixote." Come Sancho, we must be on our way."
    " But your sword..."
" Ah, yes.. my sword.. I had forgotten about it."
Quixote grabbed the sword by its hilt and began to pull heartly. The sword, in play, remained stuck. Quixote frowned and stared at his blade, wondering why he could not remove it from the dirt. Turning, he looked to Sancho.
" Sancho, my faithful friend, could you help me regain my sword? The ground seems to not want to let it go. "
Sancho nodded and wrapped his meaty hands around the pommel and began to pull. Both men pulled and yanked and strained until sweat began seeping from their pores, making it even more difficult to get a grip on the sword. Finally, Quixote shook his head and stepped back to his horse.
" Let us ride my friend, I can find another sword. "
Sancho shrugged and returned to his mule.
Thus, Don Quixote and Sancho rode off further into the plains; the sound of their growling stomachs fading into the distance.
Long after the two had ridden off a bird in the midst of chasing its dinner smacked headfirst into the sword sticking out of the ground. The sword trembled heartily and fell over with a dull thump, crushing the birds dinner flat.
