This list was compiled with the help of friends and is possibly incomplete. There are new balls and patterns being faked all the time, so you use your judgement when buying. Look for staining and any obvious signs of use. If you see a ball that is on this list and it is pristine, unless you know the history, I would be wary of it. Also, if a pendant is perfect and has no cap, I would be cautious. Merc balls are another area to be aware of, any ball can be re-merced. If it doesn't have the tube and the merc is perfect, I would again be cautious. Unless you know the history, you might be taking a chance. I can't stress enough the importance of building a relationship with a reputable dealer that will offer you a money back guarantee. | I felt I should add this. Among items to be wary of, you should add extremely dark SCA balls.Any SCA ball can be irradiated or cooked to enhance the purple tones. While these are old balls, they have been altered and should be left up to your own judgement as to whether you would like to purchase it.I personally feel they have no place in the market. They also should be permanently marked in some way, but are not. |
