LEAGUE MATCH
LRBC 3-7 OSSETT LOGOS
WHEELS COME OFF FOR LRBC
Gareth Carey Jones reports...
This was a match LRBC will be keen to forget. An understrength and underperforming LRBC were comprehensively outplayed by an experienced Ossett Logos side. LRBC continue to struggle to win enough possession to impose themselves in games, leaving Ossett countless opportunities to expose the gaps in the LRBC back four. Worrying times for an LRBC side who last won a league game in November.
The early stages of the game saw Ossett slow to take advantage of their dominance of territory and possession and it was only midway through the first half that LRBC conceded. On this occasion LRBC caused their own problems by failing to clear properly and getting caught in possession before conceding a free kick on the edge of the box from which a well-placed low shot crept in at the far post. LRBC hit back straight away equalising through Mike Philpott's well-taken strike, but conceded twice in a minute straight afterwards and another before half-time to trail 4-1 at half-time.
The introduction of Nick Coleman and Adam Tobin in the second half made some difference for LRBC, with Tobin providing an outlet wide on the right, and Coleman adding some bite and quality in midfield. But it was Ossett who continued to dominate and scored three further goals. The LRBC defence will be disappointed at being cut open so easily so often, but Ossett were given far too much time and space to play balls through.
Sadly, the niggles that so often a feature in contests between these two sides re-surfaced in the second half following a late and reckless challenge on LRBC goalkeeper Anthony Thorpe. The resulting yellow card for the Ossett striker did little to quieten the game down, with Thorpe unable to carry on and LRBC playing the remainder of the game with ten men. Two late goals from Ed Jackson were little consolation for LRBC on a day they will try to forget.
(PS David Turner would like it to be noted he hit the post with a swerving first time drive from about 45 yards out that the keeper didnt even move for!! Almost a great goal)
