LEAGUE MATCH
Morley 6-1 LRBC

LRBC OUTFOUGHT AND OUTPLAYED

Gareth Carey Jones reports...

A day that summed up LRBCs current position, and highlighted the difficulties the team face in trying to move higher up the league in future seasons. Unavailability, injury and no-shows meant the LRBC team picked itself, and while most players stuck to their task throughout, there just wasn't enough quality, and enough physical presence and determination, to match Morley.

The team line-up saw four changes from the side that beat Shipley in LRBCs last outing (one of the few times this season when the majority of players were able to turn out in the same position for consecutive games). Mark Fisher replaced the unavailable Jonathan Parkinson, Carey Jones and Karimi came into the back four in place of the Thomson brothers, while Mark Frater coming in for Thorpe in goal.

LRBC started the game in reasonably promising fashion and while even at this early stage their passing was poor, they were able to match Morley for territory. However, Morley's greater appetite to win the second ball in both boxes was a feature of the game from start to finish. Four of Morley's five first half goals resulted from LRBC failing to clear Morley set-pieces, and while the second goal clearly involved the use of a hand, LRBC will be disppointed to be continually out-battled in their own penalty area. At the other end Rosty Belibov's long throws found similar areas in the Morley box, but LRBC were unable to put the opposition defenders under the same sort of pressure. In amongst the Morley goals, Steve Robinson rose unchallenged to head home David Turner's inch perfect corner to pull one back for LRBC. The goal took Robinson's tally to four for the season, and was deserved reward for a display that set the example in terms of appetite for the tackle, and his determination to do his utmost to close down his opponents.

LRBC began the second half determined not to cave in and to protect their goal difference, and a combination of hard-work, and Morley's level dropping, saw LRBC limit Morley to a solitary second-half goal. Man of the match Duncan Brownnutt deserves a mention for his display, particularly his heading ability. Mark Fisher also showed those around him the kind of effort and tenacity that is required from everyone on the LRBC team if they are to compete with teams in this division.
