LRBC 3-0 HOLMEWOOD
LRBC SECURE FLATTERING VICTORY
LRBC continued their succesful start to the season but don't be fooled by the scoreline - LRBC were second best for much of this match. It was LRBC's defence and goalkeeper that made the difference and not only did the back four and 'keeper Antony Thorpe (Man of the Match for the second match running) stand up to near constant Holmewood pressure, central defender Stephen Robinson also scored two of LRBC's goals.
LRBC were able to start with first choice strikers Ed Jackson and Jonathan Parkinson who both missed the draw with St John's last time out, but Jackson's fragile hamstrings lasted just twenty laboured minutes before he hobbled off to be replaced by Gareth Carey Jones. By then LRBC were already one up thanks to Robinson's flicked header against the run of play, and James MacDonnell made it two before half-time with a well controlled left-foot volley on his league debut for the team. Despite the Holmewood pressure the best chances continued to fall to LRBC and Robinson could have made it three before half time but glanced his header wide following a short corner. Holmewood's best effort on goal saw Thorpe made an excellent safe to keep out a close range header.
Despite tactical changes and more substitutions for LRBC during the second half Holmewood continued to dominate possession with five across midfield, but they created few clear-cut chances. LRBC did threaten on the break and Mark Fisher, playing his last game before re-joining the army, could have signed off with a goal but his shot was saved by the Holmewood 'keeper. The final significant action of the game was fittingly left to one of LRBC's defenders, with Robinson once again beating the Holmewood 'keeper to a looping ball to head home the third goal.
