LRBC 1-4 CHAPEL ALLERTON
SAME OLD STORY FOR LRBC
Gareth Carey Jones reports
The first game of 2008 saw a typical LRBC performance where most players tried hard and the team had promising patches going forward and defended well for the most part, but were beaten by a better team who exploited LRBCs inability to deal with crosses particularly from corners.
Once again pre-match preparations were hampered by last minute hitches, but LRBC started brightly and held their own in the early exchanges. However, Chapel A did begin to exploit room down their right flank to begin to win corners and get behind the LRBC defence. Ironically it was a corner from the other side that allowed Chapel A to open the scoring after 25 minutes, with LRBC slow to react to the rebound after Chapel A had heading against the bar. A second soon followed from another corner when a weak shot from a player running across the near post somehow dribbled home. A distastrous ten minute period was completed when a cross, this time from open play, from Chapel A's right wing was headed home unchallenged from six yards out.
Half time saw senior LRBC players imploring the squad to lift their efforts and the second half saw LRBC even up the balance of play and begin to pass the ball better, and when they pulled a goal back through Parkinson after a neat one touch move a comeback looked possible. However, in truth Chapel A continued to have chances on the break and moved back into a three goal lead when once again they had two much time to win the second ball and convert at the back post. There are still enough points available for LRBC to stay up this season but they will need to find a way to improve to survive.
