CUP MATCH
BENTLEY BAPTIST 3-1 LRBC
LRBC CRASH OUT OF CUP
LRBC will disappointed with their failure to perform and compete as they crashed out of the YCFL cup at the first hurdle. Although Bentley may well have had more ability in their ranks LRBC could and should have made them work much harder for their victory.
The lack of changing rooms and a late arrival didnt help LRBCs preparation and once again they began the game without a warm-up. Bentley immediately put on pressure with LRBC getting away with failing to clear left-wing crosses twice when Bentley shot wide and then hit the post, but it was another left wing cross that did lead to Bentley taking the lead midway through the first half with a well taken finish at the back post. Despite being under pressure LRBC did make a good chance as well with Jonathan Parkinson drwaing a good save with a close range header at the back post. But it was against the run of play when Ed Jackson's presistence on the edge of the Bentley box saw the ball loop over the 'keeper into the net to make it 1-1 at half time.
The second half saw little change to the pattern of play but LRBC were holding firm until skipper Gareth Carey Jones ducked out of a header at the near post after a call from 'keeper Anthony Thorpe who failed to hold the cross allowing Bentley to scramble the ball home. Neither player will be happy with their part in the goal. LRBC committed more men forward in search of an equaliser but were quickly undone down their left-hand side, a problem that they didnt really overcome throughout the whole match. Play was quickly switched from Bentley's left to right where Bentley's right-winger had plenty of time to calmly slot home.
At this point LRBC manager Gareth Carey Jones threw caution to the wind by joining fellow central defender Stephen Robinson in pushing forward. Although the team's shape totally disintegrated LRBC were able to exert some pressure on the Bentley back four and create some shooting opportunities for Ed Jackson and Danny Sykes but a combination of good defensive pressure and competent goalkeeping kept LRBC out.
Overall - a disappointing and discouraging day for LRBC. The cup had been a genuine target for the club at the start of the season and its disappointing that the club's one real chance of winning a trophy has already disappeared. On
