LP's New Album

Album Title: TBA
Release Date: Fall 2002, on Warner Bros.
What Can We Expect?: "When we started, we wanted to play something that we weren't hearing," says Linkin Park's resident rapper, Mike Shinoda. He promises more of the same on their second outing, believing the Park's strengths lie in their careful musical retelling of some universal notions. "Our music is about getting that off your chest and getting over it, and knowing that there's other people out there who feel the same way. It's not like you're running around in the dark by yourself. We're there, too." So far the band have been writing everything on the road; according to Shinoda, they're almost halfway done. "We're gonna write the music for, let's say, 25 songs, and then take the best from those and then go for the lyrics. The lyrics are really important to Chester and me, and we don't want to spend any lyrics on a song that won't potentially make the album." Shinoda says he's in the studio on their bus every single day, even on days off, when most road warriors are nursing a hangover. As for the new disc's title, Shinoda isn't as forthcoming. "We have a three-day test. That's how we approved the name Linkin Park. We'll know within three days if a name is gonna stick for a year or not. But we're only on day two of a three-day test with this name, so I can't tell you."
