Don Van Vliet, known as Captain Beefheart, had 2 singles released on A&M in 1966.  The album he recorded was shelved until 1984.  Producing these sessions was David Gates, who later became lead singer of the soft-rock group, Bread.  Quite a contrast from Beefheart's hard-edged blues featured on these records.

"Here I Am, I Always Am" was released for the first time in 1984, on THE LEGENDARY A&M SESSIONS (A&M SP 12510).

LEGENDARY A&M SESSIONS was re-issued on CD by Edsel Label in 1986.  Magic Band personel were: Alex St. Clair (guitar), Jerry Handley (bass), Doug Moon (guitar), and Paul Blakeley (drums).
