Civic Tour (May 31, 2003)--The Movielife, MxPx, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory

I'm not sure if I was expecting too much or if I've come acustomed to my usual $80.00 concerts (this concert was only $25, which made me happy...lol), but this concert was good (as in, theres a bad, good, and an excellent concert). I suppose it had a lot to do with the performer, but nevertheless, it was good. I'm sure a lot of people will tell you that it was the best concert ever, but let me break it down like this: If I have to stand, in the dark because there is poor lighting, and in the middle of about 60 twelve year old girls who weren't wearing deodorant (and therefore smelled rancid), the concert better be beyond good (because standing between 12 year old girls with B.O is just too much sacraficing).
The show kicked off with The Movielife. My friend and I went all the way to the front (I'm guessing that the GC teenies were trying to stalk Benji and Joel before coming inside), and from that point on, we got pushed deeper and deeper into the crowd (or should I say, I got pushed deeper and deeper--seeing how my friend left me there alone. Oh well...). The Movielife's performance was okay. It was good but I doubt I will ever go see them again. Their songs are pretty catchy but nothing to brag home to momma about. In fact, I don't even really remember too much about their performance because I kept thinking "I wish they'd hurry up and finish".
Next was MxPx. Before then I wasn't a huge fan. I mean, I knew their songs and liked them, but I didn't like them enough to go buy a CD--that is, until I saw their performance. It was great. They put their all into every song, got the crowd hyped and singing along...it was great! Not to mention, I got a nice panoramic picture of Mike Herrera's back (I remember taking the picture and him turning and me thinking "Damnit..." oh well. It' came out lovely. lol). :-]
Now for the headliners. Good Charlotte was first, and that's when about 60 twelve year old girls started pushing against me. One of them even asked me if they could take my spot (I was standing a person away from the baracade) to take some pictures. Hrm. Let me think about that. No. Sorry kids. If you weren't there in the beginning, don't think I'm going to be nice enough to let you take some pictures of Joel because he's so hott and he's your husband. :-l Anyways, after my friend abandoning me, two twelve year olds playing with my burgandy/black hair, and about a half an hour of waiting, GC finally came out. Their performance was pretty good. I was hoping they'd play "Day That I Die" but they didn't (oh well). They played a lot of their good ol songs off their first albumn which was great. Other than that I don't remember too much about the concert. I was about to faint (and I believe the people around me could tell cuz they kept asking me if I was okay...lol) and the speakers were so loud that I couldn't understand a word they were saying--besides random stuff about "California Girls" and something about sex...
After my half an hour of fighting off people from pushing in front of me, I pretty much lost my voice from singing and I couldn't hear myself because the speakers were so loud. I decided to give my body a rest and I went to buy a drink before New Found Glory's performance.
Although my friend made me go buy stuff during a great portion of the NFG part of the concert, I did manage to watch bits and pieces of it, and what I saw was absolutely amazing. The set was amazing. They had their initials in blinking lights which is a big plus for me (because I like glittery/blinking things...and also because it made the place a lot more visible than GC's set). Not to mention, Jordan is one of the most energetic fools I know. From the minute he walked on the stage to the minute he walked off, he was pumped, hyped, and had the crowd going with the same bit of energy. They seem pretty dedicated to what their doing and I respect them for that. NFG is an awesome band--If I wasn't a fan and saw their concert, I'd probably be amazed. They seemed more in to their performance than GC, and in my opinion, had a better stage presence. As much as I love the guys of GC, I'm not going to lie. NFG beat their performance by a million.
All in all the concert was good. I don't regret one moment of the night (like not watching all of NFG performance...ok actually I do regret that, lol, but I'll try and get tix to the next show. Who knows.). 1
