Title: When You Love Someone

writing it for some fun 
Authors notes: ok I started this a couple days after last season finished 
and I just finished it, well I finished about 2 months ago but just finished 
typing it out. How slack am I? 
This is my first fan-fic, hope you like it. Oh and there is a few swear 
words in there. Sorry!

Monday morning 
Colette’s house 

Jesse is in the lounge room watching TV. Colette and Pete are in the 
kitchen eating breakfast. Pete quickly glances into the lounge and turns 
back to Colette and jokingly says “so, when do we get to watch TV? She’s 
been watching that since she got up. I’ve got to go to work soon, and I 
haven’t had my morning fix of television. What is it anyway?” 
"It’s Hi-5. Her favourite at the moment” she pauses, then goes on to say 
“Pete, I think we should talk.” 
“Yeah. ‘Bout what, coz I didn’t do anything. Honest!” 
She laughs “don’t be an idiot. It’s about work, they’ve offered me a 
position at a different hospital.” 
Exited for her, he says “that’s great! Which one? Is it close?” 
“Frankston, which means Jesse and I will be moving. But the thing is, I 
really want you to come with us?” 
“Huh, um, ah, wow! Frankston! That’s a long way to travel to get to work 
every day. What about my job?” 
“You could get a transfer.” 
“Colette, you and Jesse mean a lot to me, but I love my job, and my friends. 
They are like family. Please, can’t you think about it some more?” 
“I've already accepted Pete. Jess and I are moving whether or not you come 
with us, I start next week. You have until then to decide. Now as much as I 
want you to stay, you have to go or you’ll be late.” 
“But!” 
“No buts, love you” she leans over and kisses him, then pushes him towards 
the door. When he gets to the door, he yells back “love you too, see you 
tonight.” And with that the door shuts behind him. 


Monday 
Crimplex 

Everyone is at their desk doing some kind of work. Pete is reading over 
jobs in the Police Force in and around Frankston. There was an undercover 
unit there, he liked that as he couldn’t see himself in uniform, but he 
would never be able to call it his home. For years now, he had worked with 
Mac, Angie, Stone and their newest recruit Danni. He considered them 
family. He loved Colette, but he still could not make up his mind. 
With a depressed look on his face, he gets up and heads to Mac’s office. 
Danni, who had been watching him as she had found her paperwork boring says 
to Stone, who is fiddling with his computer “What do you think's buggin’ 
him?” 
“Don't know” he looks over to Danni, who is now peering over at Pete's desk 
and quite loudly to herself, she says "oh my god! Why do I have to be so 
nosey?" 
"Nosey 'bout what?" Asks Stone. 
"Ah nothing. Just me being me" she gets up and goes to the kitchen and 
while getting a biscuit, she says to herself quite softly "Frankston. Why 
the hell would he want to go there? It is such a hole" Oscar comes up 
behind her "what's a hole?" 
She jumps "ahh! Shit. Oscar you scared me. And nothing's a hole, just 
talking to myself." 
"Yeah, you seem to be doing that a lot today" 
"Yeah well. Anyway better get back to my paperwork, it is not going to 
finish itself ya know" and with that she went back to her desk. 

Meanwhile in Mac's office, Pete is sitting on the couch waiting for Mac to 
get off the phone. 
"Yes, I'm fine … really … no, it's not work … yes … um, I'm not sure, It's 
pretty busy at the moment, I'll have to see … yeah, a bit … yep well I have 
to go … yep … talk to you soon … me too … bye" and she hangs up the phone. 
"Sorry about that, what can I do for you Pete?" He doesn't answer. Mac gets 
up and heads towards the couch "Pete, earth to Pete" she sits next to him. 
"Ah, huh, oh yeah right, um, I was wondering if I could have the rest of the 
day off?" 
"Why? Are you sick?" 
"No, nothing like that, I need to think. That's all" 
"Can't you think here? It can't be that bad" 
"No, it's not! It's Colette and our future together." 
"Ah, Colette! I've told you a million times Pete, don't let your love life 
interfere with your job. But yes, have the rest of the day off." 
"Thanks" he gets up and heads to the door and as he is about close it, Mac 
asks, 
"Hey Pete, if you don't mind me asking, what exactly do you have to think 
about? It's not just Colette, is it?" 
To avoid an argument, he shuts the door as he says, "getting a transfer." 
Realising what he had just said, Mac ran to the door and as she yanks it 
open, yells out to Pete 
"HEY, YOU CAN'T DO THAT." Knowing he would avoid her still, she yells out 
again "THINK ABOUT IT! ABOUT ALL THE HASSELS IT'S GOING TO CAUSE." At that 
stage everyone was looking at here strangely. Embarrassed, she turns around 
and re-enters her office, slamming the door behind, and to herself says, 
"Damn you Pete" 

Crimplex - room with whiteboard 

Mac is staring at the whiteboard as Angie, Oscar and Danni come in. As they 
sit down, Angie says "So what is it this time?" Knowing all to well that it 
would be the usual. 
"Mac … MAC!! Waiting?" Danni says jokingly, Mac turns around "oh, Shut UP 
Danni" Danni Shrinks in her seat and mouths "ok" while raising her eyebrows. 
Mac continues "ok here…" she points to the whiteboard "we have 4 unmarried 
females, all aged between 19 and 26, all were 5-6 months pregnant and all 
had the same doctor at the same hospital" 
Angie interrupts "so, what's this got to do with us?" 
"well as I was about to say, at least they were pregnant, until a group of 
people headed by this married couple …" she points to the couple in the top 
left hand corner of the board "Dr Frank and Olga Parker, shot these women in 
the stomach, causing the death of their unborn child" 
"what do we have to do?" 
"this group is anti pregnancy before marriage, so you have to become a 
member of the group. It's all in the files" 
"who's going in?" Asked Stone 
"well I need a husband/wife pair, so anyone? But you have to be the husband 
as Pete is going to unavailable" as she says that she looks over to the 
transfer papers to the side, underneath some files. 
"Darn I wanted surveillance" he says. Danni retorts "well not everyone can 
do that, now can they?" While laughing hysterically. Oscar just looks at 
her. "thanks Dan, you just volunteered" Mac says, Danni stops laughing "no 
I didn't!" Ignoring what Danni had just said, Mac goes onto say " Ang, you 
and Jim are on surveillance…get him up to speed when he gets back. She 
picks up the same files she looked over at before and drops them on the 
table "here, read over these. You start in a week" she heads out to her 
office "And don't stuff up, we have to get these guys." Danni noticed Mac 
had left the rest of her files behind, so she picked them up, and seeing the 
transfer papers, to herself says " So it is true? No, he wouldn't do 
that!!?" 

Mac's Office 

Mac hears a knock at the door "come in" 
"hey, you left these in the other room" passing them to Mac "it's not true 
is it? I mean Pete transferring? 
"how'd you find out? This isn't even filled out … sticky beaking again?" 
"no, ah I saw some papers on his desk, then this so I put two and two 
together." 
Mac laughs "yeah sticky beaking. Anyway I don't know if he's serious. By 
any chance did you happen to see where he was planning to go?" 
Danni thinks for a minute then says "Um, yeah the Undercover unit on the 
Mornington Peninsula. It's based in Frankston" 
"wow, Frankston! Long way huh. I suppose we could visit sometimes" 
"yeah we all could" Danni looks at her watch "God would you look at the 
time! I have to go, you should go home too, think about it tomorrow" as she 
exits she says " see ya then, bye!!" 

Thursday Morning 

Mac is in her office filling out the transfer forms as Pete arrives. He 
walks past his desk and places a cardboard box on it, thinking he might as 
well get his things now. Danni, Oscar and Ang are all sitting around giving 
each other weird looks. "Hmm, what's going on here?" Danni says, pretending 
like she doesn't know anything. 

Mac's office 

Pete enters. "Mac, I've decided to go with Colette, can you sign the 
transfer papers please?" As they were already signed and filled out, she 
threw them to him. 
"Here, Frankston wasn't it?" She gets up and walks out the door. Raising her 
voice "All you have to do is sign the bloody thing!" Amazed Mac was acting 
like this, he runs after her and says "Um thanks" Finding herself getting 
more angry by the minute "Don't thank me!" She stops walking and turns 
around then points her finger at him "You have until tomorrow to move your 
stuff!" She turns around and heads to the kitchen. Feeling a bit hurt, he 
goes back to his desk and says under his breath "Don't worry I'll do it now" 
and he starts putting things in the box. 
At this stage, Angie was the only one there, as the others were off getting 
ready for their sting. 
"Pete, what's going on?" 
"I'm moving. I got a transfer, I'm moving to Frankston on Sunday" 
"why?" 
"Colette has a new job at The Frankston hospital and she asked me to move 
down there with her, so I am" Ang looks at Mac, who is now in the kitchen on 
her moblie phone and back to pete. 
"is that what you want? Think about it before you sign it. Is it really 
what you want?" And with that she walks off. 

Kitchen 

Mac is on her phone 
"Hi Bill … how are you? … that's great … yeah … anyway, how about dinner 
tonight? … yeah, yours or mine, doesn't bother me … yep, ok see you then … 
you too, bye." She hangs up her phone and heads back to her office. 

Pete's house 

Pete is sitting at the kitchen bench staring at the papers, thinking about 
what Angie had said. What did she mean by it? He saw her look at Mac, but 
he was over their relationship a long time ago. Or was he? A million 
thoughts went through his head. He pulls out some photos. They are of the 
gang from the past years. There's one of him and Mac when they were 
together, he started remembering all the good times they had together even 
though they did have to sneak around. And then he saw a photo of Colette, 
Jesse and him at the park. They looked happy together, but he couldn't see 
a future together. He realises he has made a mistake and yells out "Shit! 
Shit! Shit! What have I done?" And he heads out the door. 

He decides to take a drive to Mac's. When he gets there, he knocks on the 
door and Bill answers. 
"Hi pete, how are you?" 
"Good thanks. Is Mac here?" 
"Yeah she's in the kitchen! Come in" 
"Ah nah, it's .. it's ok" he turns and walks back to his car. 
As Bill shuts the door he says "Hmm strange" and walks back to the kitchen. 
"Who was that?" Mac asks 
"It was pete" Mac looks up "Yeah! What did he want?" 
"You, but he wouldn't come in he just left" 
"Hmmm, well maybe he wanted to apologise" 
"What for?" 
"We had an argument, he's getting a transfer. I think he's stupid for it" 
"Maybe that's what he really wants. Where's he going?" 
"Frankston, I mean, we are never going to see each other again!" 
"You could visit, you know" 
"Yeah … but I love him, I don't want him to go" 
"You do?" 
"Ah, did I just say that?" 
"Yes, and I think maybe I should go" 
"No! Don't go! Please, we haven't even had dinner yet" 
"Nah, I think I should. Thanks for dinner anyway. I will show myself out." 
Bill heads out the door and Mac runs after him "Bill! Wait!" He stops and 
turns around "Not tonight, see ya and with that he left. Mac closes the door 
and bangs her head against it a couple of times " WHY?" 

Friday 
Crimplex 

Pete comes into to get the rest of his things. Everyone is there farwelling 
him - except Mac. She is in her office watching them, crying. She doesn't 
want to show her emotion to the others, especially Pete. 
"So you're leaving mate, we'll miss ya" says Stone 
Pete replies, not sounding too happy about it "Yeah, I know. Where's Mac?" 
"In her office, she hasn't come out since this morning" Danni says 
"Tell her I said bye, and I'll miss her" he heads to his car and Angie 
follows him "Hey Pete, what's going on? You … really don't want to leave. 
Tell her, At least speak to her!" 
"I'm leaving! No one can stop me, I love Ma … I mean Colette." Realising 
what he just told Ang, he says " Ok, maybe one person can. But she has to 
want to, and I don't think that's going to happen. I mean she's moved on, 
she doesn't love me anymore." 
"You don't know that Pete" 
"Yeah I do!" And with that he got in his car and drove off. 

Mac's office 

There is a knock at the door "Come in" Mac says as she wipes the tears away 
from her eyes. Angie enters "Hey Mac, how are you?" 
"Fine! Why?" 
"Well I was talking to Pete and I know of a way for him to stay" 
"Yeah, how because he has signed the papers. There is no way they'll let 
him come back." 
"Mac listen. He loves you" 
"Then why the hell did he leave?" 
"Don't know, but he said that you were the only one that could change his 
mind" 
"He said that? She half smiles and starts crying again "Ang, could you 
please leave me alone?" 
"Very well, but remember you're the only one!" She leaves. 
Mac opens her desk draw and pulls out a copy of the same photo Pete had 
before and holds it out in front of her "Oh Pete why? Why has it come to 
this?" She lightly drops her head on the desk. 

Saturday morning 

Mac was laying in bed, thinking about what Angie had said - that Mac was the 
only one who could get Pete to stay. Then she thought about how Pete came 
to her house the other night. Maybe that was what he was going to tell her. 
She decides to tell Pete how she feels. 

Pete's house 

Mac knocks on the door and there is no answer, she knocks again and yells 
"Pete, come on open up" she knocks again "Pete are you there?" When she 
gets no answer she tries his home number, but that had been disconnected. 
Then she tries his mobile, but it is turned off "AHH … what is the use of 
having a mobile phone if you keep it turned off?" As Mac drives away she 
realises that he was probably at Colette's. 

Colette's house 

Mac knocks on the door and there is no answer. "Hello. Is anyone there? 
Pete? Colette?" She knocks again "Anyone?" A neighbour overhears Mac and 
comes out. "They're not here love" 
"What … what do you mean they're not here?" 
"They left early this morning, they're headed for Frankston." Mac thought 
for a moment, she thought they were supposed to leave tomorrow. "Ah, ok 
thanks" Mac walks back to the car, gets in and heads home. 

Mac's house 

Mac pulls into her driveway, stops the car and sits for what seems like 
hours but is only a minute. She gets out and heads for the front door, but 
stops in her tracks. Pete is standing on the door step "Pete! What are you 
doing here? Why aren't you with Colette?" Pete smiles "I love someone else. 
I always have." 
"Yeah who?" Mac knew what he was about to say and as he is about to say it, 
she puts her finger up to his lips "Nope don't tell me" they gaze into each 
others eyes and pete says to Mac "I love you" Pete could see that Mac felt 
the same way and they kiss. Mac suddenly pulls away "What about the 
papers?" 
"Didn't sign them!" She smiles as tears run down her face "So I guess 
you're staying then" 
"Yep guess so" they smile at each other, then Mac pulls Pete in for a long 
passionate kiss.
