Mac and Pete's house~ Mac and Pete were nervously seated on the sofa, each getting up every five minutes and walking to the front door as though they were waiting for something. Eventually the front door opened and Mac and Pete eagerly waiting before they finally heard the sound of children giggling. Pete stood, followed by Mac, as Danni made her way down the hall with the double stroller. "Where the hell have you been, Danni?" Pete demanded. Danni was taken aback by Pete's tone, "I took the kids for a walk to the park." "Next time you do something like that, can you at least call either Mac or myself and let us know what's going on?" "Yes, sorry. I didn't realise it was a crime to take them to the park." Danni noticed the photographs on the coffee table before seeing Mac's face showing signs of worry. "What's happened?" She asked hesitantly. Mac looked up at Danni, handing her the photos, "he's been here." "Landis?" Mac nodded, "Pete was just worried when he found the photos and saw that you weren't here…we thought that…" Mac trailed off as she burst into tears. Danni walked over to her, hugging her tightly. "Oh Mac, I'm sorry, I didn't give it a thought." Bridget and Callum were getting fussy in their stroller, particularly when they saw their mum was upset. Pete unstrapped them and immediately, they went running into their mother's arms. "Have you heard anything from the surveillance crews?" Mac asked as she picked up her two babies. Pete pulled out his phone, "nah, I'm about to call now." Van~ "…Yeah, we'll have a look for you now…no worries…call you soon…bye," said Angie, hanging up the phone. Oscar looked at her, "what did Pete want?" "He wants us to look at the surveillance camera for the back, to see if it picked Landis up entering the house." "How do they know he's been there?" Angie shrugged, "Pete mentioned something about photos being there." "He must've been pretty quiet!" "Mmm," replied Angie, as she began searching through the tape. "…Hang on…there," said Oscar, pointing to the screen. Angie paused the tape, which was now showing Landis entering the house via the sliding door. Angie picked her phone up, "I'll let Pete know." Mac and Pete's house~ "Thanks Angie…bye." Mac looked up at Pete as he finished his conversation, "they picked up something?" "Yeah…Mac, Angie thinks it might be best if you and the kids stay at her place tonight…I agree with her." Mac shook her head defiantly, "no, Pete. You were the one who said we stay put instead of going into witness protection." "Mac, things have changed. Landis will come back, and next time, he will be after more than just giving us a fright." Pete sat down on the floor where the kids were playing, "how would you two like to go and stay at Aunty Angie's house tonight?" "Are you and mummy coming too?" Asked Bridget. "NO - " "I won't be, but mummy will," said Pete as he cut Mac off. Mac shook her head while Pete stood up, "and what will we do if we come home tomorrow, only to find you dead?" "Mac, you won't. Oscar's going to be here as well…we'll be fine…I'll be fine!" "You better hope so!" Later that night, Oscar and Pete were sitting on the sofa watching the cricket. "I'd do anything to be in the Caribbean right now," said Oscar. Pete laughed, "yeah? And what would you be doing in the Caribbean?" "Sitting in the sun at the cricket, sipping ice-cold cocktails and enjoying life!" "Sorry to disappoint you mate, but all I have to offer you is watching the cricket on the box, in the dark, with another ice-cold beer," said Pete, pulling out another six-pack from the fridge. Oscar grabbed one obediently, "I guess I can't complain, then!" "Is there one for me?" Said a voice in the background. "SHIT!" Stated Oscar and Pete simultaneously, as they searched for their guns. "Looking for these?" He laughed, holding their guns in the air. Pete stood, "Frank…How the hell did you get in here?" "Through the bedroom window…noticed your beautiful wife wasn't there!" Pete's eyes levelled with Frank's, "sorry Frank, but if we had of known you were coming, I'm sure she would have stayed." "Ah well, not to worry…I'll just have to catch up with her later at Angie's house…isn't that where she's staying?" "How the hell do you know?" Frank laughed, "wouldn't you like to know!" Oscar stood, "if you hurt her or Angie, or those little kids, you will pay." Frank scoffed, "you won't be able to protect them by the time I'm finished with you!" "You leave my wife and kids out of this Frank, this is between you and me," Pete said as he stood millimetres from Frank's face. "Some people have short memories," he replied sarcastically. "You should be thanking me." "For what?" "Well, if it wasn't for me, all this wouldn't be yours," he stated with his arms in the air, "nor would Mac be your wife, and those adorable little children wouldn't be here." "What?" Pete asked again. Landis shook his head, as he was digging deeper under Pete's skin. "If I hadn't have blown Bill Hollister up, he would be the one making love to your wife every night, having your children, living the life you now have!" Pete's jaw tightened and he could feel his fists getting heavier as he firmly clenched them. "You don't know that!" "Ooh, yes I do…I remember watching them the night before he died…the way her body pressed into his – she loved him, mm, yeah she did. I couldn't help but feel sorry for her, knowing that I would be getting rid of him the next day." "You sick bastard," said Pete as he threw a punch into Frank's stomach. Frank threw the next few punches Pete's way, knocking him out. Oscar went to his aid, but was kneed harshly in the groin. He tried to chase Landis down the hall, but doubled over in agony. Angie's house~ Mac awoke with a sudden fright. She looked down at the two tiny figures sleeping soundly beside her and smiled, knowing that they were safe. Mac looked over towards the window where she thought she saw a shadowy figure standing, but shook her head as she realised it was just her imagination. "Looking for something?" The voice was so familiar; it didn't take too long for Mac to realise who it was. Mac started to panic as she looked back down at her children. "How did you find me?" She whispered, her voice shaking with fear. Frank walked to the edge of the bed, reaching out to place a hand on Callum's forehead, but Mac slapped it away, "you leave my children alone!" "That's no way to speak to an old mate of your husband," Frank replied with such arrogance. "What is it you want? Isn't it enough that you have already killed someone I loved?" He shook his head, "no, it's payback time! Time to make your husband pay for putting me behind bars." Mac scoffed, "you put yourself there!" "Ah, but it was your husband who wouldn't stop until he had me." "Maybe you should have thought of that before you had Jonah Day killed and before you killed Bill!" Bridget and Callum both started to stir. "Mummy, I can't sleep." Mac looked down at the girl who had just seen Frank in the room, "mummy, mummy, who's that man?" "Someone who's looking for daddy…Bridget, why don't you go in and see Angie and tell her that you can't sleep." "I'm afraid that won't be possible," said Frank as Mac felt the tip of a gun dig deep into her shoulder blade. Mac gazed into Frank's eyes, "what have you done to her?" "She just has a small headache." Mac looked down at Bridget who was starting to cry, "Mummy, I'm scared." "I know sweetheart, come here," she said as she nursed her daughter. "I am begging you, please leave us alone, please?" "You know I can't. I have to see how far your husband will go to protect his loved ones!" Tears were also starting to appear in Mac's eyes, "Pete will make sure you don't get away with this." "I'm sure he will…come on, we're going for a drive," he said as he grabbed Mac tightly by the arm and ushered her to get the children. "Where are we going?" "You'll find out soon enough." Mac and Pete's house~ Pete started coming to as the sun was rising for the day. He looked around as he tried to open his eyes, but the brightness was too much for his head and held his hand there to ease the pain. "Shit!" He said as he looked back down at the blood on his hand. "Oscar, wake up…Oscar." Oscar woke, looking up at Pete, "what happened?" "Landis bloody got away, that's what happened." "Alright, I'll ring Angie, make sure Mac and the kids are safe," Oscar said as he rose to his feet, grabbing his groin which was still aching. After a few moments Oscar hung up, "there's no answer." "Oh shit! Landis last night mentioned something about knowing where Mac was…shit!" Angie's house~ The door to Angie's house swung open, crashing into the wall. "Mac…Mac," cried out Pete as he hurriedly searched through all the rooms of the house. "Pete, in here," Oscar called from Angie's room. Pete walked in only to find Angie sitting up on her bed, hands tied to the bed-head and feet tied together. He pulled the tape from her mouth away with an almighty `rip' that caused Angie to cry out in pain. Oscar helped Pete undo the rope, "where's Mac and the kids?" "I don't know Pete, I'm sorry…I, I couldn't stop him," answered Angie as tears quickly escaped her eyes. "It's not your fault Angie," reassured Oscar. Pete stood, grabbing his car keys, and raced out the door with Angie and Oscar hot on his heels. "Oscar, can you call Danni and let her know what's going on?" "Yeah, sure no worries." Frank's car~ "You won't get away with this." Frank looked smugly over at Mac, "I know!" "Why come back…what is there to achieve?" "Well, I figured I might as well try and kill Pete, seeing how I'm already serving a life sentence…so, what's another murder worth?" Mac shook her head, "Pete was a mate of yours once…why kill him?" "Bill was a mate too, that didn't stop me, did it?" Mac scoffed as the car screeched to a halt. "We're here." Frank pulled out his phone and handed it to Mac. "Call your husband, tell him where to meet us." "You want him, you do it yourself," she replied throwing it forcefully into his chest. Frank did not like that one bit, so he grabbed Mac's daughter by the arm, "you will do as I say, otherwise, you won't only end up with a dead husband, your little girl will get it also! Now, make the call!" Mac snatched the phone off Frank and grabbed hold of Bridget as soon as he let her go. Pete's car~ "Hello…Mac! Are you alright?…What about the kids…he didn't hurt Bridgie, did he?…Where?…Yeah, be there soon…Mac, I love you…" "How's Mac?" Asked Angie urgently. "She's alright, just a bit scared…Frank wants to meet up with me at Aberfeldie Park." Oscar grabbed his phone, ready to dial, "do you want me to call for back-up?" Pete thought for a moment before replying, "no, just tell them to be on stand-by…I'll wear a wire and give you guys the signal, ok?" "Yep…Angie, can you get my equipment on the floor there…Thanks," said Oscar, taking the bag. Aberfeldie Park~ "Mummy, I'm scared," said Bridget as Mac held her two children. "I know, baby…as soon as daddy gets here, we'll go home and get ready to have a holiday with Grandma and Grandpa, ok?" Frank laughed, "don't forget you'll have a funeral to plan first!" Mac looked down at her watch, trying to ignore Frank's last comment. "Daddy," cried out Callum, pointing towards Pete's car. Mac looked up, relief showing in her eyes. "Yeah mate, that's daddy…why don't you two run down to meet him and I'll stay up here." Mac knew that Oscar, Angie and Danni would be with Pete, if not, they wouldn't be too far behind. But Frank moved too quick for the kids to be able to get away, "oh no you don't!" As Pete was getting out of his car, he turned at the sound of kids screaming, only to see that Frank was dragging the kids away. Pete hurried getting ready and raced up the hill. "Let them go Frank." "I'm sorry mate, I can't do that," he replied smugly. Pete pulled his gun out, "I'm not your mate…let them go…this has nothing to do with them." "What will you do to me if I don't…shoot me?" Frank laughed, "you wouldn't have the guts to do that…you'd be too shit scared…worried that you might hit them instead!" "Just let them go…this is between you and me…they weren't even around when this started." Frank looked back at Mac momentarily, allowing Pete to creep slightly forward, "you're right, they weren't, but Mac was." Frank dropped his hold of the kids and picked Mac up. Bridget and Callum ran to where Pete was, crying hysterically. "Run down to the car…Angie has a treat for you…quickly," Pete said gesturing over to the car. "Mac has nothing to do with this either, Frank, so just let her go." "Don't bullshit me Peter…you and Mac were the ones who pushed for my arrest…wouldn't stop until you had me for Bill's murder…now I'm not stopping until I have you!" Frank stepped behind Mac, out of Pete's firing line and pointed his gun at Church. Pete looked deeply into Mac's eyes, trying to read them, then looked back up at Frank. "Come on Peter, it's your call," Frank said before Mac jumped to the side, the sound of a gunshot ringing in the air. Pete raced over to where Mac was lying and helped her to her feet. "Pete," she let out before bursting into tears. "Ssh, Mac. It's alright…we're safe now…let's get out of here, eh?" Mac nodded as they both headed towards the car. They stopped as they came to Frank's body lying on the grass. "You can't hurt us anymore!" Stated Pete as he stood over Frank. Pete and Mac made their way down the hill, neither looking back, as uniformed police officers surrounded the area. Mac and Pete stopped again, this time two metres away from the car and started crying in each other's arms. "It's over…it's finally over!" Exclaimed Mac in between sobs. "Yeah, it is," replied Pete as they felt two small bodies crash into them. "Hey big guy," said Pete throwing Callum into the air, "let's go home, eh?" Callum nodded his head, as Pete drew Mac in for a passionate embrace while everyone looked on. Mac pulled away, tears still streaming down her face, but still managing to let out a smile, "it's over!" Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ADVERTISEMENT Your use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to the Yahoo!
