TITLE: The Story Of Us DISCLAIMER: I don't own Stingers, or any of its characters, and I am writing this for my own amusment, no monetary profit EMAIL:courtz16@hotmail.com SUMMARY: Well here is just a quick story about how Mac and Pete could have got together, it would be great to read any other peoples ideas on how one of our fave couples got together. Hope you enjoy. Mac got into the passenger seat of the car and slammed the door. She could handle working with Pete when they were catching the bad guys, but not when they were on a recruiting drive. This was just crazy. Bernie knew how much she hated him, and how much he hated her, so why did he put us together on a two week operation? Oh well, she would just have to hold her tongue. She looked across at Pete as he reversed out into the street. As far as she was concerned Pete wasn’t really police material. He was a cowboy,a hero head, a pain in the arse. Sure he was good looking and had a waywith the ladies, but he was still a pain in the arse. Mac flicked down the sun visor in the car and studied herself in the mirror, then took her hair out of a tight bun, and retied it in a long ponytail. If she had to go back to the Police Academy she may as well look the part. Pete turned to her and tried to make polite conversation “Wow, you hair is long.” Mac turned to look out her window and answered “Yeah” Pate raised his eyebrows, as they sat in silence all the way to the Glen Waverley Police Academy After what seemed like ages they arrived at the Police Academy, and Pete decidedonce again to try and make conversation “This brings back memories doesn’t it? Shared accommodation, shit food, sneaking out to the pub...” Mac interrupted “Look Church, I don’t like you, you don’t like me, so lets stop this trying to be nice to one another crap and just find two suitable recruits. Then we can both go home.” Pete just shrugged his shoulders and got out of the car. He got all of their gear out of the boot, and went to grab Mac’s bag to take it in for her “Excuse me, I think I can carry my own bag thank you. Having breasts does not mean I’m an invalid.” Pete dropped Mac’s bag straight into a puddle, took his own bag and started toward the door. Mac picked her heavy bag up from the puddle, and muttered just loud enough for him to hear “Arsehole” Once they entered the main hall, Pete went over the the reception desk, and handed them the note Bernie had given him. The lady at the from desk smiled and handed over two slips of paper and a set of keys. Pete walked back to Mac and gave her her slip of paper. She opened it and read the information, her undercover details. The people at the Academy knew her and Pete were Undercover but they would be known bytheir Undercover names, mad for this operation her name was Janene Watters, and Pete was to be Shane Rayson. Pete turned back to her and said “Bernie has got us staying in the same room, according to this note he reckons it’ll do us good” Mac just glared at Pete, picked up her bag and headed toward the dorms. Later on that afternoon, after Mac and Pete had completed a defensive driving course ( both Pete and Mac passed with flying colours, though Mac was a little pissed off that Church had got higher marks than her) Mac layed on her bed, going through the notes Bernie had faxed to her. He had already found a suitable male operative, a young copper from the country. This meant her and Pete would only need to find a female operative. Though Bernie had not said it in so many words, he wanted the new female operative to not only be young and intelligent, but attractive and blonde. It had gone without saying that female Undercover Operatives had to be attractive, to physically attract the criminals they were going after. The unit already had one brunette operative (herself) so it would be logical that to accommodate the different tastes men had in women, the new operative would have to be blonde. Mac sighed and leant back on her pillow and picked up the character profiles that the people at the academy had given her to look through. Each profile contained a picture, along with exam results, fitness and heath tests and character evaluation test results. Mac began to sort through each of the woman at the academy, one pile for potential blonde operatives, and another for the women who did not make the grade, either physically or intellectually. Then she came across the character profile of Angela Piper. She had scored extremely well on all exams, met the character evaluation criteria to become an Undercover Operative, and on top of this was a very attractive natural blonde. Mac had met Angie while taking part in the defensive driving course. Angie was self confident, and to some extent charismatic, which was essential in Undercover. She would be the perfect operative. Mac put her file to one side, as Pete entered the room, just come back from having a shower. Mac turned as he walked past her bed, smelling that absolutely sensational male odour, mixed with a great after shave. Pete spoke, interrupting Mac from her thoughts “Hey, I meant to tell you, I met this great girl who would be perfect for Undercover, she is an absolute stunner...” Mac interrupted, infuriated by Pete’s last remark “Well if you think she’s an absolute stunner, we sould hire her right away, then you can get to know her better, but I suppose that wouldn’t really matter, you have probably already cracked on to her anyway” Mac was really starting to get going, she got off the bed to talk to Pete face to face and continued “Because you just the lady’s man aren’t you? You can get every girl you want, I tell you what Church, you nothing but a womaniser...” Pete decided it was time to defend himself “You just jealous because I got a higher score than you on the driver test, and I tell you what MacKenzie, I’ll get higher than you on every other test. You think I’m not fit to be a police officer, but it’s what I do. It’s what I have always wanted to do and it’s what I’m good at.” Mac paused before retorting “So you are just going to turn this argument around, taking the attention off your womanising and on to your abilities as a police officer. If your so good at the job, why have you been disciplined three times? And why haven’t you progressed up the ranks? All these years in the force and your still a constable, that’s something to be proud of” Pete was now starting to loose his temper, but his momentum in the argument was interrupted with thought of how sexy MacKenzie was when she was angry. He had never seen her in this light before “Who wants to brown nose all the brass? Certainly not me, I’m perfectly happy remaining a Constable. I get to do what I love, working in the field. I would much prefer this than some pen pushing job in some high rise office at Police Head Quarters” Mac was running out of arguments but replied “Is that what you think I would like to do is it? I happen to like working on the field as well, but I don’t want to end up some forty five year old Connie, still doing exactly the same thing as I’m doing now, unlike some I see the need to grow up!” Pete yelled back at her “What, and you don’t think I’m grown up” Mac yelled back, puffing out her chest to imitating Pete’s masculine voice “I met a girl perfect for Undercover, she’s and absolute stunner’ Now tell me Church does that sound like a grown man to you, because it sure doesn’t to me, it sounds like some sex crazed teenager” Pete yelled back, inches away from Mac’s face “You think I’m some sex crazed teenager do you? Hey do you? What if I told you I haven’t had sex for the past four months, not since I broke up with my girlfriend of two years. The time before that I had been dating the girl two months before I slept with her. Would you unlike to go back any further into the history of my sex life? Would you like to know the girl I lost my virginity to? Her name was Fiona McLeay. I had been going out with her for....” Mac decided she didn’t want to now anymore of the intimate details of Churches sex life. She was flooded by feelings of jealously, which she soon tried to rid herself of “I do not want to know about all the girls you have slept with! What, do you want a bloody medal, no hang on, I’ll ring the newspapers!” Pete shook his head “Now your just being a smart arse, anyway I’d rather be me than you, a stuck up ice-queen! The way you swish that ponytail of yours when ever a decent looking guy comes within a ten mile radius is sickening” Mac yelled in defence “What, so now we’re going to personal insults are we, picking on my hair, just because you like girls with short hair...” Pete interrupted, seeing the opportunity for asmart arse remark “Yeah, I like chics with short hair, I don’t like the butch look, but a nice shoulder length bob would look great on you, at least then you wouldn’t look like a teeny bopper wanna be!” Mac yelled back “That’s really mature Church, can’t win an argument so you pick on my.." Mac paused then said, in her normal tone “Do you reckon I’d look better with shorter hair?” Pete smiled, and took Mac’s hair in his hands, holding the length behind her shoulder “Yeah, it would suit you” Mac smiled, as Pete moved his hand, so it cradled her face “You really think so?” Church just smiled, as he moved in to kiss her and whispered “Yeah” As their lips touched, Mac felt a million emotions rush through her at once, this was the guy she hated, who had made her life over the past year a living hell. But he is so sexy, and a great kisser. What will Bernie think? This was against the rules. The fact that it wasn’t allowed turned her on even more. Pete was completely absorbed in the kiss. He knew there had always been a spark between him and Mac, and he had contemplated a relationship with her, but this was better than what he had expected, even if it was just a first kiss. Slowly he broke away, still holding Mac’s waist he asked “Are you sure about this?” Mac paused for a moment before answering him with a kiss. Later on that night, Church was leaning against the wall of Mac’s single bed with his arm protectively around Mac, who was cuddled against him under the sheets, her long hair spread messily across the pillow. They were talking to one another for the first time since they met. For the first time they were actually in each other company without yelling, or giving each other dirty looks. Pete noticed something on the bedside table. He picked it up and had a look at the picture. It was the girl he was talking to Mac about before, the one who had started the argument. He laughed to himself, and Mac looked up at him “What are you laughing at?” Pete showed her the picture of Angie Piper, and said as he kissed Mac on the forehead “This is the girl I was telling you about, I was talkking to her on the way back from the showers.” Mac reached out from under the covers and took the picture, smiling "That must be the first time we have ever agreed on something" Pete laughed, and they fell into silence for a little while, thinking of their past arguements. There was heaps of them to think about. Finally Mac lifted her head, to shift her hair out of her face, she laughed to herself and looked up at Pete "You know, I might get my hair cut when we get back to work" Pete smiled "Wasn't something I said was it?" Mac laughed "No, I was thinking of cutting it all off anyway" They both laughed, as Mac laid her head back onto Churches chest. Once she was comfortable he said "I might book into take my Senior Connies exam next June" Mac ceased her opportunity "Wasn't somehting I said was it?" Pete laughed and kissed her on the head "Narr, I was palnning on sitting the exam anyway" Mac laughed, as she playfully thumped him across the chest, and with that they disappeared under the covers until dawn.
