SUMMARY: Angie goes out for New Years, with her friends, and at last finds love outside of her work. (Further notes at the end of the page, but don’t read them now, cos you will ruin the story) THANKS: To Andrea for proof reading through this (and all my fics) and posting it for me. “That will be $57.60” Angie looked at the lady in amazement, then at the costume she was about to hire. How did I get talked into going to this thing? $57.60, talk about a rip off. Nonetheless Angie pulled three $20 notes from her purse and handed them to the lady. The lady spoke as she collected Angie’s change “I’m sure you will turn a few heads in this little number…. And here’s $2.40 change.” Angie took the change and slipped it into her purse, and took her parcel “Yeah, I hope so. Happy New Year!” The lady smiled and replied “You too, Sweetheart.” Later on that evening, Angie sat at her dressing table, applying the last of her make up, before putting on her wig. Taking another sip of her Vodka Cruiser, she began to psych herself up for the evening she had been talked into “I am going to have a good time. I am no longer sweet, innocent, backward in coming forward Angie Piper.” Angie put on the wig, pleased with the way she looked “I am the sexually alluring Morticia Addams, who is going to pick up tonight, a really, really good looking, attractive guy, who is not a stalker, does not live on the other side of Australia, and is not a piker..” Angie gulped down what was left of her drink, and collected her things to put into her bag. She took one last look at herself in the mirror. For a blonde, she certainly pulled off the Morticia Addams look very well. She heard a vehicle pull up outside, and a horn go off. Quickly she grabbed her bag and keys and ran out the door, and up to the bus, already filled with people. Angie climbed up the steps of the bus, in her tight fitting Morticia Addams style dress, and was met by a number of wolf whistles and cheers. Angie blushed, despite the fact she was surrounded by friends. Girls on this bus had remained loyal to Angie, even though her job meant that she didn’t have much time to spend with them. She looked around at her closest friends, all dressed in costume for the night. Janene was looking hot, as a she-devil, dressed in a mini skirt, Mandy was dressed as a hooker style Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Trish was dressed as a cat, in a full length black leotard, Suzie was dressed as a fairy princess and Tammy was dressed as Uma Thurman, Pulp Fiction style. Angie complimented them all on their outfits, as she made her way down to the back of the bus, to where her two closest friends in the world were sitting. The three of them had been inseparable since kindergarten. Angie planted herself between them on the backseat. On her left was Tracy dressed as Wonder Woman, and on her right was Christy who had decided to go as an eighties style Madonna, cones, high ponytail, microphone and all. Now that she was on her way to the venue, she felt grateful for the fact that they had been able to persuade her into coming. Christy turned to Angie and said “All set for the night of your life Ally?” The sound of Angie’s real name grated through her ears, but she smiled and said, “You bet, I’m gonna get absolutely shit faced, don’t worry about that!” Tracy laughed, glad to have her best friend back, sounding like she used to in high school. “So girls, have you got your masks all ready?” Angie cringed. “Do we have to wear them? They wreck the whole look” Tracy agreed. “Yeah, I know, but they won’t let you in the door without them, and they won’t let you take them off till after midnight. By the way Ally, that dress looks great on you.” Angie smiled “You don’t think it’s a little to tight?” Tracy just laughed at her “Ally Cat, you could pull off anything with that body of yours” Angie smiled, and leant her head on Tracy’s shoulder. “You haven’t called me Ally Cat since we left Primary School.” Tracy smiled “I don’t know why I called you that. Why, don’t you like it?” Angie laughed. “No, no I like it. It reminds me of who I really am.” Christy laughed at this cryptic comment, as she pulled out three Subs. “You’re a funny one Allison Verhoeven, you really are” Christy passed around the drinks. “Ok girls, let’s drink to our New Year’s Resolutions” Tracy lifted her glass and began. “Here’s to kicking that dirty, rotten habit of smoking” Christy took her turn next, raising her glass, “Here’s to saving enough money to go on a holiday next year.” Angie thought for a moment. There were so many resolutions she wanted to make. She wanted to learn to be more forward, she wanted to learn how to say no to people and not let people walk all over her, but finally she raised her glass. “Here’s to spending more time with you guys,” Both Tracy and Christy cheered, as the three glasses met in the middle. Tracy, Christy and Angie entered the ballroom, masks on and well on the way to feeling a little bit tipsy. They moved away from the doorway and scanned the room. Finally Christy said “I say we split up, suss out any hotties and meet in the toilets at 11.15pm, what do you guys reckon?” Tracy and Angie nodded in agreement. This was their usual clubbing routine. It was easier to pick up guys when you weren’t in a group. Tracy got in first “I’ll take the dance floor.” Angie looked briefly at Christy, and spoke before she had the chance, “I’ll take the bar” Christy smirked. “Fine, I’ll just hang around outside the mens toilets” Tracy and Angie laughed, and Tracy said, “You can come with me on the dance floor, just as long as we’re not together” Christy smiled, and the three of them separated with quick hugs. Before Angie left, she turned around and said. “11.15pm, Ladies Toilets. Good luck guys.” “Good Luck, Alley Cat.” Angie sat at the bar, and looked across at the dance floor. Tracy was dancing up close and personal with what looked to be B1, from Banana’s in Pajama’s and Christy had hooked up with what looked to be two members of the Village People, the Indian and the Cop. Angie shook her head and laughed. As she turned back to face the bar, she saw the cowboy she had been eyeing all night coming toward her. Angie smiled to herself. Maybe Danni’s tricks did work after all. The cowboy came up beside her, and not wasting any time said, “How ‘bout a Quick Fuck?” Angie smiled “I’d love to Cowboy.” The cowboy motioned to the bartender “Two Quick Fucks thanks mate” The bartender nodded and went to get the drinks. Angie took a moment to study what he was wearing. It was obviously a hired costume, with black cowboy pants, studded boots, red vest on a brown shirt, a red hat, with a matching mask that covered his eyes, and most of his face. The cowboy turned to Angie. “I’m Dave by the way” Angie smiled and took his extended hand. “Allison, but call be Ally.” Dave smiled “So Ally… did you come here alone?” Angie smiled and decided to play with him a bit. “No, actually I came with Wonder Woman and Madonna” Dave’s look of concern soon turned into a look of relief. “So how about you Dave, did you come alone?” Dave smiled “No, actually I came with the Gladiator over there” Dave pointed to a Gladiator, making a fool of himself on the dance floor. Angie laughed as the bartender turned with their drinks. Dave thanked the bartender, and looked at Angie, who already had her hand around the shot glass. Dave took his drink and began to count “One, Two, Three.” Both Angie and Dave knocked back their drinks and Angie’s glass hit the bar a spilt second before Dave’s. Angie raised her arms in victory, but Dave protested “Hey Ally, you drank on two, that’s not fair!” Angie laughed. Maybe she did cheat, just a little. “Ok, ok, we’ll have a rematch, my shout. How about a Cocksucker, Cowboy?” Dave laughed, and Angie ordered the drinks. “Two Cocksuckers thanks mate” The bartender nodded and once again went to get the drinks. Angie turned to Dave “So Davey, can I call you Davey?” Dave laughed, “Not if you expect an answer.” Angie laughed, the previous shot was beginning to affect her, “Ok then, I won’t call you Davey, if you don’t call me Smelly Ally. Deal?” Angie held out her hand, and Dave took it. “Deal” The bartender returned again with their drinks and Angie began the countdown. “Ready? One, Two, Three!” Both Angie and Dave threw the drinks down their throats, and their glasses hit the bar simultaneously. Dave laughed while Angie said “Well, we’ll have to call it a draw, because if we have another rematch, I’m gonna fall off this stool.” Dave laughed, and held out his hand. “Allison, would you like to dance?” Angie laughed at this formal invitation, but took his hand. “Why yes David, I would” As they made their way to the dance floor, Angie discovered just how hard it was to walk in such a tight fitting dress, after a couple of drinks. As she stepped down on to the dance floor, she felt herself falling forward, toward the ground. Dave managed to catch her just in time, and as she was clinging on to his vest, she said, “You have no idea how hard it is to walk in this dress.” Dave laughed, “You sure it’s not just the effect too much alcohol.” “No, it’s not, I had trouble walking in this dress when I was sober!” Angie defended herself. Dave laughed, “Alright, take a chill pill!” Angie smiled “Well stop saying stupid things!” Dave laughed, as he led her to a space in the middle of the dance floor, and the two of them began to dance. Angie watched Dave dance, and burst into laughter. “Dave, you dance like a gorilla!” Dave pretended to look offended and said, “Well then, Morticia Addams, show me how it’s done.” Angie smiled, and began to dance, and soon she was pulling out the moves she would never dream of doing sober, moving up and down Dave’s body. Finally Dave caught on to the rhythm, and the pair dancing, oblivious to what was going on around them. Finally, one of the bartenders interrupted them, offering them a turn at the bourbon bong. Angie knew she just had to have a go at this, so the bartender filled up the bottle with a can of Jim Beam, and Angie put her mouth around the hose. By this time a crowd was building around her. Once Angie was ready, the bartender released the tap, and Angie sculled the bourbon, while the crowd around her chanted, “Scull, Scull, Scull, Scull, Scull.” Finally Angie finished the bong, without spilling a drop and the crowd began to disband, and the bartender put a sticker on Angie’s chest, stating her achievement. Angie made her way unsteadily over to Dave. “Did ya see that Dave?” Dave laughed. This girl knew how to have a good time. “But Dave I think I’m a little tipsy,” Angie put her arms around Dave’s neck, just as a slow song began to play. Angie relaxed into his toned body, and put her head to his chest. Dane put his cheek to her head. “Mmmm, the smell of a nylon wig, turns me on baby.” Angie laughed, and looked up at him. “Hey Dave, what do you do for a living?” Dave answered, “I’m a building surveyor, I work for a company in the city. How about you Ally?” Angie smiled. A guy with a nice normal job, that she didn’t work with. She had vowed to herself that she would never get involved with a guy whose job took him halfway around the world regularly, like Rob’s had done. To answer his question, Angie found herself telling a lie. “Oh, I have an office job, at umm… AMP in the city.” Angie thought to herself, well no one really knows what AMP does anyway, do they? Most people in Undercover told their friends and family they were in the Police Force, and worked in Admin or something, but Angie had discovered that telling guys she was a cop was the best way to get rid of them. And you may as well tell a full lie, rather that just half of one. Dave left the conversation at that, and they continued to dance. At the end of the song, Angie glanced down at her watch. It was 11.15pm already. She looked up at Dave “I ahh… have to go and check in with my friends. Promise me you won’t go anywhere?” Dave smiled “I’ll wait for you over by the champagne fountain.” Angie smiled, and kissed him gently on the cheek. “I’ll be back a soon as I can.” Blushing, Angie left the dance floor, and made her way to the toilets, not looking back at Dave, who was smiling like the Cheshire cat. Inside the toilets, Tracy and Christy were already at the mirror, fixing up their makeup and comparing stories. “So Trace, you gonna stick with B1 for the rest of the night?” Tracy applied, reapplying her lipstick. “No, I think I’ll go with his mate, B2. He has the sexiest green eyes, he is just mint. How about you Chrissy, have you made your mind up between the Village People?” Christy laughed. “I gave them the flick. I think they were more interested in each other.. NO, I’ve moved on to bigger and better things. Frankenstein.” They three of them laughed, and all attentions turned on Angie. “Allison Michaela Verhoeven, what would your mother say if she saw you in a state like this?” Angie laughed “She would probably say what she always does, that you two are a bad influence!” Christy laughed, “She would not, you mother loves us” Angie agreed “Yeah, she does” Tracy wasn’t interested in this chit chat, she wanted to know the goss. “So how’s it going out there with Wyatt Earp, Ally?” Angie blushed. “His name is (hiccup) Dave and he is a (hiccup) building surveyor, and he is (hiccup) so sweet and so (hiccup) funny.” “Hey, hey, I’m not pushing him. It’s good to see you out and playing the field, after the whole thing with Rob…” Tracy said Christy also added “Yeah, and that guy at your work you only half told us about” Angie smiled and looked at herself in the mirror. Happy with what she saw, she turned around and gave her friend’s a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek “Happy (hiccup) New Year’s girls, and thank you so much for talking me into coming here. I am having the best night of my life.” Tracy and Christy laughed as Angie left the toilets, they both yelled out. “Happy New Year’s Ally” “You go Girlfriend!” Angie headed straight toward the champagne fountain, grateful that her hiccups were finally going. Dave was standing exactly where he said he would be. As Angie got within a few meters of him, he pulled a long stem red rose from behind his back and handed it out to Angie. Angie took the rose and held it to her nose, taking in its sweet scent “Thank you, you shouldn’t have.” Angie moved closer to hug him, and he said. “Well, they were giving them out, so I thought I may as well take one” Angie laughed, as Dave leant down to kiss her. Their lips touched gently and unsure at first, and slightly awkward with the masks but soon the kiss grew more passionate. Finally Dave broke away and whispered as he held her tight. “I can’t wait until midnight,” Angie laughed, blushing once again. Dave asked, “Would you like to accompany me out to the balcony, to welcome in the New Year?” Angie slipped her arm through his. “Yes, I would like that very much” Out on the balcony, many of the other couples had had the same idea. Dave found them the perfect spot on the railing, over looking the superbly lit up Yarra River. From where they were, they could see the masses of people gathered around South Bank, ready to welcome in the New Year. Angie leant over the edge of the balcony, and Dave wrapped his arms around her shoulders. She leant back into him and said, “Dave this has been the best night ever.” Dave put his head on her shoulder and kissed her white neck “It has, hasn’t it?” Angie tilted her head to one side, to let Dave continue, “Everything is perfect. The music, the rooms and now this view. And you. And the thing is, I haven’t even seen your entire face” Dave looked at Angie. “Allison, I ahh, I would really like to see you again, sometime soon, after tonight...” Dave was interrupted by the countdown. “Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven...” Angie turned around to face Dave as they continued the countdown. “Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Happy New Year!!!” Around them fireworks exploded, champagne bottles were popped and cheers filled the night sky. Somewhere in the background, Auld Lang Syne could be heard. But none of this mattered to Angie and Dave, both absorbed in a passionate kiss. Finally, when the kiss ended, Dave and Angie looked around them as other couples were pulling off their masks. Some couples had resumed their passionate embraces while others looked at each other awkwardly. Angie looked at Dave. “Paper, Rock, Scissors? Loser takes their mask off first?” Dave thought about it for a moment. “Yeah, alright” Angie and Dave held out their fists, and counted together “One, Two, Three!” Angie kept her hand in a fist, while Dave had chosen scissors. Admitting defeat, he took his mask off. Angie studied his face for a moment, before saying “Ohh Shit!” Dave looked insulted, “Hey, I didn’t think I was that ugly.” Angie took off her mask and wig at the same time, and Dave looked at her. “Shit is right” Angie replied “Yeah” Angie then added, “You came with Bundy didn’t you?” “And I’m guessing Allison is your real name” Angie sighed, and looked down at the wig and mask, still in her hands. “Oh Oscar, what have we done?” Angie’s eyes began to get teary, and Oscar hugged her again. “Just our luck Ange, isn’t it. We both go out, looking for love and wind up with each other.” Angie laughed, still holding on to him. “And what’s this crap about a building surveyor?” Oscar laughed, “I thought I would try something new. And what about you, Miss ‘I Have A Job At AMP’! Do you even know what they do at AMP?” Angie laughed, “Nope, I wouldn’t have a clue. We’re a pair of shockers aren’t we?” Oscar laughed, as he moved closer. “Yeah, we are.” Just as their lips were about to meet for the third time that evening, Angie backed away. “Stone, is this real? Because I don’t ever want to go through what I have been through this past year with you.” Oscar sighed, “Oh Angie, I am so sorry, I was so wrong, and I…” “And I forgive you” Angie interrupted. Oscar smiled with relief, “Really?” Angie laughed, growing impatient. “Yes really, now come here.” As the rest of the crowd went back inside, and all the excitement of New Years began to slow down, one last bright red firecracker blossomed through the night sky, as Oscar and Angie celebrated their New Years well into the morning. EXPLANITORY NOTES: Just in case you are left a little bit confused at the ending, Oscar used to live with this guy named Bundy (he was a bit of a geek) and Oscar went under the name of Dave with Bundy, and that is why Oscar would be using the name of Dave. Angie’s real name has not been mentioned on the show, so I thought I would just make one up for the purpose of the fic. With this fic, you have to either assume that Oscar hadn’t been shot, or he made a miraculously fast recovery. Umm that’s about it for these notes, if you have any questions, just email me. Happy New Years Everyone!!!
