Okay, Bill didn’t go kaboomie, and Danni isn’t preggers. ALL of the rats are with us. Okay? ALL.OF.THEM. Goldie, Frank, Tayler, Dave and even Gorgeous George, the whole lot. Cause don’t we all just love living in denial...:D “Donna, run up and remind the D’s about the meeting in five, hey?” bossed Helen “Sure thing Sarge,” replied Donna. Running upstairs to tell the D’s, all 6 of them, about the meeting, Donna ran into Mick. “G’day Donna,” he smiled. “Oh, hi Mick. Are the others in the office?” “Yep, sure are. Why?” “Can you give them a message for me please?” “Ah, yeah, I think I can manage that.” “Okay, tell them there is a meeting in the meal room in five. Ta!” she smiled, bouncing back down the stairs, towards reception. “Mick mate! Did ya get my coffee?” laughed Frank, who was having a competition with Jack, to see who’s paper aeroplane could go the furthest. “Yeah, sure thing,” he replied, handing the coffee over to Frank as he sat down. “Hey guys, by the way, there’s a meeting in the meal room in about two minutes now.” “Michael, what did you do to get us into trouble THIS time?” scolded Alex from the other side if the room. “I didn’t do anything!” Mick whinged back, trying to hide a smile. “Yeah right, and a pig just flew past the window,” laughed George. “Oh, touché,” murmured Frank. “Well, I’m going to go and see what all this is about,” said Rachel, who stalked out of the office, towards the meal room. “Oh well, I guess we better follow Miss Bossy Boots then,” sighed Frank. “I HEARD THAT HOLLOWAY!” came the screamed reply from down the hall. “Damn,” he frowned, snapping his fingers together. Down in Melbourne… “Alright guys, listen up. We have some officers coming down from Sydney. I want you to be nice, all right. And Pete, I’m the boss, okay??” teased Mac, remembering the time Pete conned Danni into believing he was the boss. “Ah, who are they?” asked Angie, who didn’t look too impressed at the whole idea. “Yeah, I’m getting to that,” fussed Mac, “they aren’t actually UC. They’re Water Police.” “You’re kidding,” scoffed Pete. “Nope,” Mac replied “Why are we working with them?” Oscar piped up. “Yeah, okay. Let me explain.....” Back in Sydney..... “I need some people to volunteer,” Jeff started. “What for chief?” asked Mick. “To go to Melbourne,” he finished. “Melbourne? What’s in Melbourne?” asked Mick, who was still confused. “Shopping! That’s what Michael,” scoffed Alex disbelievingly, “does he know nothing?” she added in a whisper to Rachel, who was sitting next to her. “How long has it taken you to figure that one out?” laughed Goldie. A snicker ran through the room. “St. Clare,” Jeff warned. “Yeah Chief?” she asked innocently. “Okay, so, who’s going?” he continued. “You mean, any of us can go?” Woodsie piped up. “Yes, any of you, but we can only afford ½ the team. You see, the station is getting rather overcrowded, so some of you will need to be transferred out. This is to give you an opportunity to, lets just say, broaden your horizons. We need to make the team smaller. If you want to stay, that’s fine as well. I’m just saying if you want to try something new, then now would be the time to go for it. I’ll give you ten minuets to decide. I want everyone back in here in 10.” Jeff finished up, and promptly walked out of the room. “So, who’s coming to Melbourne with me?” Alex exclaimed with excitement. Melbourne.... “So, we have to show them the ropes, basically,” sighed Pete “Yes. I’m still waiting on the call from their Boss, to say who is coming, and what their rank is etc. Then we can know what we’re dealing with,” Mac tried to explain. “And how come we have to do this again?” asked Angie. “Because, well. Because someone told me we had to and hence I’m telling you – we just have to,” she finished. “Ah, okay then,” said Pete nodding, “so when do they get here?” Sydney.... “Okay, so it’s St. Clare, Goldstein, Holloway, Woods, Janevski, Johnson, Quinn and Tavita,” Jeff read from a list in his hand, “And Helen will be chaperoning, to make sure you don’t embarrass me,” he added quickly. “Hey Boss, can I change my mind and go?” Mick piped up, “please?” “Yeah, righto Rilley. If you want to be difficult,” Jeff said, writing down his name, “but remember you lot, once I phone this all through, that’s it. No changing your minds.” “Sure thing Boss, no problem. Which unit will we be working with?” asked Alex. “I can’t tell you that till later. Only the people who are going, are allowed to know. All those who are going, be in my office for a meeting in two hours. You leave at two. Dismissed.” “Hey, Chief, two this afternoon? In like, three hours?” Alex was stressing. “Yes, in three hours. Be back with your things in two hours, packed and ready to go.” Melbourne...... “Mackenzie.” Mac answered her phone. “Ellen, it’s Chief Inspector Hawker here, calling about some of my people coming down and working with your team.” “Oh, Jeff, hello. Yeah, not a problem. So, can I get a list of names?” Mac asked politely. “Yeah, I’m faxing them through now. And one other thing, one of mine is ex-undercover. Just thought I might let you know,” Jeff added, hanging up. Mac hung up the phone, wondering whom this ex-uc was. The fax whirred into life as Mac stood up, and walked over to it. “Hm, hm, hm,” she said to herself, studying the paper thoroughly. “What’s up?” asked Oscar. “Oh god. Stone. I didn’t know you came in. Do you need something?” Mac said, moving back behind her desk, to sit down. “Nope, just wanted to know if you had that list. I’m just curious to find out who’s coming down, so I can look them up to find out a bit more about them,” he replied, shifting from foot to foot. “Ah, is there something I should know about Oscar?” inquired Mac “No, nothing. I just know someone from the water police squad. Well, actually, he was my best mate until I joined undercover. That’s all. Just wondering if he was one of the people coming down,” Oscar confessed. “Oh, righto, here’s the list. Just bring it back when you’re done, okay?” Mac said, passing the sheet of paper over to Oscar. “Thanks Mac,” he replied, walking out of the room. Sydney..... “Okay, everything I tell you in here, is not to go past these walls, understand? It’s just a security measure we have to take,” Helen stood at the front of the office, talking to the rest of the room. “Yeah Sarge,” a few of them muttered, just wanting to know what they would be doing in Melbourne. “Okay, you shall be working with the Melbourne undercover unit,” Helen announced. Some eyes in the small, over-crowded office widened. “UC?” Alex’s face dropped, “woopie.” “It’s okay Alex, Jeff has informed Snr. Srg. Mackenzie of the situation and she knows you’re ex-undercover. It won’t be that bad, trust me,” Helen continued, “We shall be going for four weeks. You’ll get one day off each week, and two days off before we start, to get settled in and do some shopping,” Helen pointedly looked over at Alex and Goldie, who’s eyes lit up immediately, “and two days again before we leave, to do some more shopping, sight seeing, whatever you want really. We shall be staying in a hotel, The Clarion Pacific. Buddy up, with someone of the same sex please Michael, and that is whom you will be sharing a room with. The nights are free, for you to all do whatever you want as normal. But keep in mind you have a curfew of 11.30, unless the next day is a scheduled day off for you. In that case, you may do what you please. You shall get the same days off as your buddy, so you will not be stuck roaming the city alone; you can get lost in the city together. You shall get things to do when we get down there, and the rest of the undercover team is meeting us at the airport. I want everyone to introduce yourselves, and be polite. It’ll take awhile for us all to get to know each other, so we need to help each other out. Any questions?” Helen finished at last, taking a deep breath and having a sip of water. “Ah, Helen, this hotel we’re staying in, how many stars is…” Helen cut Alex off. “Two, Alex. It’s not the Ritz, but it very nice. Now, any more real questions? No? Good, I didn’t think so. Everyone down to reception with your luggage, and then we’re off.” Melbourne...... “HA. He IS coming!” laughed Oscar, who was back down at the desks and looking over the piece of paper Mac had given him. “Who’s coming?” Angie asked, looking over Oscar’s shoulder. “Just an old mate of mine. Turns out he’s one of the water people coming down to do some work with us,” Oscar smiled, “Tommy and I were the best of mates until I joined up here. We lost contact soon after that, as you can imagine.” He moved up towards Mac’s office and knocked on the door. “Yeah,” Mac yelled from inside. “Just bringing back that list. I’ve copied the names down, and I thought I might buddy some people up together. You know, two of them to one of us. So they can have a mentor type person, you know,” Oscar suggested to Mac, “after all, there are ten of them and five of us. It would work perfectly really.” “Yeah, good idea. Check out up on some background info on them, and match them up. Good idea Oscar,” Mac looked up and smiled at him gratefully. “Yeah sure, no problems Mac,” Oscar smiled at her before walking out of the room. “Oh, Oscar, before you go, can you round up the rest of the team for me please? We are expected to go out the airport and meet and greet these people,” she put on a deep voice, trying to mimic the Commissioner. “Yeah, sure thing Mac,” Oscar laughed, walking out of the office. Melbourne Domestic Airport, 3.30 “Welcome to Melbourne. You must be Helen,” Mac reached out her hand and took hold of Helen’s, “Senior Sergent Ellen Mackenzie. Pleased to meet you. Do you all want to go and collect your luggage?” “Yes, that would probably be a good place to start I guess,” smiled Helen, who promptly moved off towards luggage collection. “Tommy! MATE!” yelled out Oscar across the terminal. “Hey, Cam? Is that you mate?” Tommy laughed, and gave his friend a slap on the back, “what the bloody hell are you doing here? And why didn’t you ever call me back, hey?” “Well, to answer your first question, I’m here as part of your welcoming committee, and that should answer the second question as well,” Oscar replied, throwing his arm around Tommy’s shoulders, and turning to the rest of the UC team. “You’re underc…” Tommy began, but being cut off by Oscar. “Yeah mate, and it’s not meant to be public knowledge either.” “Ah, I got it. Stupid me hey,” Tommy laughed at his own mistake. “And one more thing. My name isn’t Cameron anymore. It’s Oscar Stone,” Oscar smiled. “G’day Oscar pleased to meet ya. Detective Francis Holloway at your service,” Frank walked over to the pair, who were causing quite a scene. “Ah, Stone, is this the friend you were telling me about?” Mac had also walked over. “Yeah Mac, sure is. Mac, meet Tom…” this time Oscar was cut off by Mac. “Lets do the introductions back at the factory, hey?” “The factory?” Helen asked, confused. “Oh, yeah, that’s what we call our building. The factory,” Mac explained, laughing. “Oh, yes. Back at the factory would probably be a little more appropriate for the introductions, don’t you think?” Helen added her bit in. “Goodo, lets go get our bags then shall we?” The Factory....... “Okay, sorry about having to blindfold you all in the car. It’s just a precaution, and it’s for today only,” Mac stood out the front of the crowd of officers in the briefing room, who were still keeping very much to themselves. The operatives were all lounging about on the couch and beanbags, while the water police all sat stiffly on chairs of one sort or another. “Okay, what we have decided to do is buddy two of you up to one of us, so you can have a mentor to go to if you need to know anything, or find out where anything is. I’ll read that out in a moment. Now, remember, we are all adults here, so I expect we can all get along well enough, if we give each other a chance. Is that understood?” Mac eyed everyone carefully. She noticed the woman with the short brown hair was looking rather unimpressed. “Oh well,” she thought. Mac turned around to get the ‘buddy list’ that Oscar had given her earlier. “Okay, as I read your name out, I want you to come to the front of the room. State your full name and rank, and tell us a little about yourself. What ever you want people to know. All right? Good. Let’s start. Emma,” Mac looked up and smiled at the blond who had stood up. Moving to the front of the room, Emma noticed that the blond from the uc unit was looking at her, so she gave a small smile. The other girl smiled back. “Okaaay. I’m Senior Constable Emma Woods, and I’m a diver for the water police. Not much to tell really. I like the water, but you have to with my job, so that’s pretty much obvious. My roomie is Alex over there. And, oh yeah, people tend to call me Woodsie.” Emma moved back over to her seat to sit down again. Mac stood up. “Okay, thankyou Emma. Next is Matthew. You two will be buddied and looked after by Angie over there. Ange, wave your hand. There you go. So, Ange, you’re next. Matthew?” Matt stood up and moved to the front of the room, just as Emma had done minuets ago. “I’m Senior Constable Matthew Quinn. I’m a boatie and you can all call me Matt, or Matty or Matthew.” Matt walked back over to his seat, as Angie moved to the front of the room. “Constable Angie Piper. I’ve been in undercover for about 5 years now, and during that time I have been a bar-tender, drug dealer, waitress, cleaner a homeless person and about everything in-between. It’s not an easy job, but like they say, someone has to do it. And I just want you all to know, that what we do isn’t scummy. There are worst jobs, I’m sure. We just wanna catch the bad guys, like you.” Angie finished and moved back to her place on the couch. “Okay Angie,” Mac said, giving her a funny look, “next is Rachel.” Goldie stood up and walked to the front of the room. “Detective Senior Constable Rachel Goldstein. I don’t take crap from people and I do my job well. If you want to, you can call me Goldie.” Rachel moved back over to her seat. Mac didn’t even bother standing up; she just shot Goldie an unimpressed look. “Tommy?” “Hi, I’m Tommy Tavita, and I’m a Senior Constable. I’m in the boat crew back up in Sydney, and that’s about all.” By this time Mac was sick of standing up and sitting down again, so she was just reading the names off the sheet as she sat. “Goodo, you two will be partnered up with Danni. Up ya jump Dan.” “Constable Daniella Mayo. Most people call me Danni though. I’ve only been in undercover about two or three years, but everyone made me really welcome. I hope they do the same for all of you while you’re here.” “Okay. Donna?” “Hi. I’m Constable Donna Janevski, and I’m really pleased to be here. Not much to tell about me either. I do a lot of the reception work back at the station, so if you ever need help organising anything, just give me a shout.” “Thankyou Donna. Next is…Tayler.” “I’m Constable Tayler Johnson. I haven’t really been a cop that long, but it’s really awesome so far. Oh, and another thing, Senior Sergent Blakemore is my aunt.” “Oh. That’s interesting. Stone, your turn.” “I’m Constable Oscar Stone. As some of you may have heard at the airport, my real name is Cameron Pierce. Tommy and I went through the academy together, that’s how we know each other. And I’ll be looking after Donna and Tayler while you’re here.” “You sure will be Stone. Okay. Francis?” “Detective Senior Constable Francis Holloway. Most people call me Frank though. Unless you’re Goldie. She usually calls me a bastard. Goldie and I have been partnered together for about eight years now. It’s a long time, but we’ve managed to make it work.” Frank winked at Goldie as he walked back to his seat. Pete found this rather amusing, and tried to stifle a laugh, rather unsuccessfully. “Peter, shut up. Next is Michael.” “Detective Senior Constable Michael Rilley. You can call me Mick, Rilley, whatever you want really. I’ve been with the water police for about four years now, but I would like to try something different.” “Sounds good Michael. Pete, you’re up.” Pete got to his feet and wondered to the front of the room. “Senior Constable Peter Church. Not much to tell really, but I hope you water people don’t get dry feet to easy, cause we don’t really go anywhere near the water.” Mac shot Pete an amused look. “So Frank and Mick, your teamed up with Pete, all right. Next is Alex.” “Detective Senior Constable Alex St. Clare. Not many people know this, but I used to be in undercover, so I know what it’s about. Guys, it’s tougher than it looks, so cut em some slack, hey?” Alex said, looking over to the water police. “Ah, so you’re the ex-uc hey? Goodo, well said Alex, thankyou. Helen?” “Senior Sergent Helen Blakemore. I’m the intelligence officer back at the station, and I’m looking forward to meeting you all properly.” Helen sat back down as Mac stood up, and turned to address the room. “Okay, that’s that done hey. I’m Detective Senior Sergent Ellen Mackenzie, but everyone calls me Mac. I don’t really care if you call me Ellen or Mac, just do what you want. Now that you know each other, I want you to go to your buddy’s, and they’ll show you around the factory. After that, we’ll head back to your hotel and you can get unpacked. I want you to exchange mobile numbers with your buddy, so you can all contact each other. All fifteen of us have two days off, so we can show you around the city if you want. I think that’s about all. Oh, one more thing, Donna and Tayler, one of you will need to get a lift to the hotel with someone other than Stone, because he has a motorbike, so he can only take one of you. You can go on the bike if you want, but you don’t have to. Okay, off you go!” * “Okay!” Helen screamed across the lobby of the hotel, “listen up! We have the whole third floor to ourselves. Frank and Mick, room eleven.” Helen handed out the room keys and shooed each pair towards the lifts. “Tommy and Matt, room twelve. Donna and Tayler, room thirteen. Emma and Alex, room fourteen. Goldie, you and I have fifteen.” Mac and the rest of the team looked on as everyone struggled towards the elevators. “Hey, Emma isn’t it?” Angie walked over to the other blonde. “Can I help you with your bags or something? You look like your having a bit of a hard time there.” “Yeah, you’re Angie right? Pleased to meet you. Yeah, if you could give me a hand, that would be a huge help. Thanks,” Emma smiled over at Angie, as they hopped into the elevator. “So, I’ve got you and Matt, right?” “Yeah, looks like it hey.’’ “So, what’s Matt like?” “Yeah, alright. Bit up himself, bit of a show pony. Other than that, he’s okay.” “Sounds all right. He’s kinda cute though, don’t ya reckon?” “Yeah, he’s not bad. But like I said, he’s up himself.” “Fair enough. This ex undercover girl, what about her? Alex, isn’t it?” “Yep, Al. That’s her. She’s who I’m rooming with actually. You can suss her out for yourself if you want, when we get up there.” “Okay, I think I will.” “Goodo. Oh, this is us.” The girls got off the lift and moved past the open door to number twelve, narrowly missing being hit by a pillow that came hurtling out of the door. “Oi Tommy, watch it mate!” Emma screamed back down the hall, not even bothering to turn her head. Angie turned around and saw a head poking out of the room. She wasn’t sure who it was, but he gave her a goofy grin and disappeared back inside the room. “In here Angie,” Emma called, opening the door to the room and walking in. Angie walked into the room after Emma, and was hit by a bright stream of sunlight coming from the windows. “Woah, that’s bright!” Angie exclaimed, shielding her eyes. “Should have brought your sunnies then,” a voice came from behind Angie. Turning around, Angie saw it was Alex, who had her sunglass firmly planted on her face. “Hello, you must be Alex. I’m Angie. I was just helping Emma with her stuff.” “Hi, how are you? And yes, I’m Alex.” Alex offered a hand to Angie, which Angie took and shook confidently. Alex then moved past her and over to the other bed in the room, dumping her two bags on it and falling beside them on her back. “Oh god I hate travelling. Have either of you got a Panadol or something I could have? Or a bottle of the stuff?” “Not handy, sorry Al,” Emma replied from under her pillow. “Um, I have some down in the car if you want me to run down and get it?” Angie offered. “Oh would you? That would be terrific. Ta.” Alex groaned from the bed. “Yeah, no problems. I’ll be back in five, k?” Angie left the room and headed down to the car park. * Mac had been left in the lobby with Helen and Goldie, who were the last to get the lift up to their room. “So, Mac hey? How did that come about?” Goldie laughed “Ah, that would have been Peter. When I started at the unit, he had already been there for a year or so. He just asked if I had a nickname, I said no and he just said, ‘Okay, I’ll call ya Mac then’.” Mac laughed at the memory. “How about you with Goldie?” “That was Frank. Pretty much the same story as you really. God knows how on earth he came up with Goldie though.” The three women laughed together as the doors to the elevator opened, and Angie stepped out. “Ange, where are you going?” Mac stopped her. “Oh, Alex has a headache, and I have some Panadol in the car. It was the easiest to access we decided, since Emma’s and Alex’s were both packed. I’ll be back up in a tick.” “Ah, goodo. See you up there.” Mac smiled as the doors closed. Arriving up on the third floor and walking out of the elevator Mac, Helen and Goldie were faced with a hallway full of mess. There was the pillow from Tommy, suitcases lying on the floor; one was open. It appeared someone had stopped at McDonald’s, and the empty fry packets, cups and wrappers were strewn all over the place as well. “I bet I know who that was,” muttered Mac. “Peter Church!” The door to room number eleven slammed shut, and they herd the lock click from the other side. “I’ll be out here waiting for you Pete. And so will this mess of yours!” Mac yelled as she knocked on the door. They walked over and around the mess, past the pillow fighting Tommy and Matt, past the fussing Donna and Tayler (who were already half way through unpacking) past the groaning Emma and Alex and into what would be home to Helen and Goldie for the next four weeks. * ‘Give it to me baby (ah huh, ah huh), Give it to me baby (ah huh, ah huh), Give it to me baby (ah huh, ah huh), And all the girilies say I’m pretty fly (for a white guy)’ Tommy had his radio on full blast, and it was only 6am. “Tommy Tavita! If you don’t open up this door, RIGHT THIS SECOND, I SWEAR to God, I am gonna hurt you sooooooo BAD!!” Goldie screamed as she banged on the door to number twelve. Helen and her had done a coin toss, to decide which of them would get up and go sort Tommy out. Inside the apartment, the music went off, and then the door opened to reveal a scared looking Tommy who was hiding behind the chain lock. “Sorry Goldie couldn’t sleep. I decided it might be nice to put some music on and…” “And WHAT? It’s SIX in the bloody MORNING Tommy. Have some decency, PLEASE. No more music until eight. And that’s FINAL!” Goldie stormed back off down the hall towards her room. “What a way to start the day…” muttered Tommy. * “Morning Helen,” chirped Mac as the ten water police were met in the lobby of their hotel. “Oh, morning,” Helen sighed back, taking a long sip of coffee. “FRANSIS YOU BASTARD! Give that BACK!” screamed Goldie, chasing after Frank who had taken her breakfast (a coffee and croissant) off her and was being chased around the lobby. “Heleeeeeeeeeeen, Frank won’t give me back my coffeeeeeeeeee,” pouted Rachel, who had decided she wasn’t going to catch up with Frank and get her breakfast back. “Frank, you keep Goldie’s breakfast, alright?” Helen said to Frank. “Yeeeeeeees” Frank punched the air in triumph. “Then tonight you will go and buy her dinner. What ever she wants, you will get for her, yes? Good.” Helen ordered at Frank. He immediately stopped running around and sat down and looked as put out as possible. Mac looked on with amusement, wondering how on earth Helen put up with this lot. * "So what are we gonna be doing 'ere?" Frank asked Mac loudly. She turned, and Pete thought she was trying extra-carefully to be prim and proper. Must be under some pressure from 'higher-up' to make this work, he figured. "My people will be showing you the ropes," she paused. "But you will NOT be going undercover. If my operatives are, you will stay and see what you can help out with." "There will be a rotation in the Com-V…" "What’s that?" Emma asked. "Communication Van," Danni replied as if Emma was stupid. She didn't like the fact that Angie and that Woodsie girl had buddied up so quickly. She hadn't found anyone, except that guy -Mick- who just couldn't keep his eyes off her. God it was annoying but very slowly, she was finding herself looking his way every now and then as well. “Danni?” Mac was calling her name, but she just wasn’t responding. Pete decided to help out a little. “WAKE UP DAN!” he yelled right in her ear. “Peter, next time tap her on the shoulder or something will you?” Mac asked, most unimpressed about how her team was behaving. “At the moment we’re not actually working on a case, so you can all help out a bit around the place. Peter, you Mick and Frank will clean out the Van. It needs doing badly. Oscar, you can do some work with Donna and Tayler, show them the computers and stuff. Danni, you Rachel and Tommy will be logging tapes. Ange, you can file the reports we did on the last case with Emma and Matthew, and Alex and Helen, you two can come with me.” Mac finished up and headed straight to her office with Helen and Alex in tow. * “So, we get to log tapes?” Goldie stood with her hands on her hips looking rather unimpressed. “Yep, sure do. It’s not all that bad you know. It’s just one of things that has to be done,” Danni sighed loudly. “Righto, lets get this over with then I guess. What do we do anyway?” hehehe, okay, i got stuck about there. if neone wants to continue it, feel free. i don't think i'm gonna keep going. :S:D luv ya lots, Catt
