It’s my first so I wouldn’t find some feedback good or bad. But remember it’s only my first. “Morning all” Detective Sen. Sergeant Ellen Mackenzie said as she walked into the office where Peter Church, Danni Mayo, Angie Piper and Oscar Stone were sitting at their desks. “Hey Mac” they replied “Um, can we talk a minute” Peter said to her as he headed for her office. She nodded at him and followed him into her office. “What’s this about” she asked him as she put her brief case on her desk and sat on her desk chair. Church was finding it hard to say what he wanted to say and Mac sensed that something was wrong straight away “What’s going on Pete?” she asked “Harry Smith’s escaped from prison” he said. Mac looked at her desk trying to not show any of the emotions she was feeling. “Really” she said “Yeah” Pete answered “look, Mac I think you should come and stay with me until they catch this guy, I think it will be safer” “Thanks for the offer Pete but I can look after myself, I’ll be fine, anyway we aren’t even sure he will come after me, he’s probably just trying to find someway to get out of here” she said flipping through papers on her desk “Look Mac, you blew his whole drug ring and got him in for murder. He’s already tried to kill you once, don’t think he might no try again” “I’ll be fine, I’ve looked after myself for twenty odd years, I don’t need your help now” “You haven’t had someone trying to kill you then had you” Pete said getting frustrated at her stubbornness “I’m an undercover cop, offcourse I’ve had people wanting to kill me, I’ve survived those, and I’m going to survive this on my own” “Those other people haven’t been nearly been as dangerous as Harry Smith” he said “I’ll be fine Pete, don’t worry” she said trying to convince herself as well as Pete “Mac, if you wont stay with me at least stay at the factory” he suggested “Tonight, after work I will be returning to my house to stay there, I will be fine” Pete heaved out a sigh of frustration “Oh, Bill Hollister rang me on my way to work and he wanted to know how you were doing on the Bob Hunter case” she said “Don’t change the subject,” Pete said to her “Pete he doesn’t know my real identity or where I live so let’s leave it at that, I’ve got to go to HQ” Danni took a bite out of her apple and flipped her head in the direction of Mac’s office just as Mac slammed the door and stormed to her car “What’s going on with those two?” she asked “I don’t know” Oscar said “Must be something going on” she asked, “Mac seemed pretty angry just then” “Danni, stop gossiping” Oscar said “What she gossiping about now?” Angie asked as she wondered over to Danni’s desk “It looked like Church and Mac had an argument about something, and Danni’s jumped at the chance to start gossiping” Oscar answered “Excuse me” Danni said offended as she threw a piece of the apple at him “Oh” Angie said as she looked down at the floor “Do you know something” Oscar asked “Well, remember Harry Smith?” Angie asked Oscar “Who” Danni asked “Well before you entered the unit Mac went undercover in a drug ring, she went after the head of it all. Anyway he found out she was undercover, kidnapped her and tried to kill her. Well we got to her in time and he was put in jail for running the drug ring, kidnapping, attempted murder and the murder of some others. But last night he escaped from Jail. My guess is that Church has tried to help Mac and Mac’s said she doesn’t need it, it’s the same old story,” she said to them both “Yeah I remember that” Oscar said, “Do they think he’ll come after Mac “They’re not sure” Angie replied “Mac, please come and stay with me, think about this” Church pleaded with Mac as they were getting ready to head home for the day “Pete, I will be fine, stop worrying” Mac said as she climbed in her car “Call me on my mobile if you need anything” he said to her She rolled her eyes at him “See you tomorrow” she said as she shut the door and drove out of the factory. As Mac was sitting down to a nice hot pizza in front of her laptop her phone began to ring “Hello” she answered in her usual tone just as she said that the line cut of. She shrugged and put the phone back on its cradle. She then went back to working on her laptop. Suddenly the phone rang again. “Hello” she answered. This time the line didn’t cut out there was just heavy breathing. She hung the phone up and went back to her work but just as she did this next doors dog began barking loudly, she walked over to the window with her cordless phone in her hand. She began to type in the digits of Peters mobile, but as his phone started ringing she realised what she was doing and hang up quickly. She didn’t need Peter Church to come rescue her. There had been no more calls and the dog next door had stopped barking and everything had gone back to how it was supposed to be. Mac was sitting at her laptop when the doorbell rang she went up to answer it “What are you doing here” she asked Pete as she saw him standing at the doorstep. “Didn’t you call me” Pete said “Um, I must have um typed in the wrong number see I was trying to ring my um, parents” Mac answered trying to make up an excuse. “Your parents” he said “Yeah, I mean I hadn’t spoken to them in awhile and I decided that I had better you know, have a chat” she answered “Really” he said not believing a word she said “Yeah” “Are you going to invite me in” “Whatever” she said stepping out of the way. When the movie they were watching had finished Mac stood up “It’s getting late,” she said “You sure you don’t want me to stay?” Pate asked “I am positive,” Mac said as he picked up his jacket and headed for the door “Goodnight” he said as he gave her a quick peck on the cheek “Bye” she said as she closed the door, then headed up to bed. It was about 8.30 and Mac was running around the house trying to find her keys for the car, so she could get to work. She found them under the lounge and quickly headed for the door, as she opened it she was met with the shock of seeing Harry Smith’s face. She quickly tried the shut the door but he had his foot wedged between the frame and the door. He pushed her back inside the house and she fell to the floor in shock. “Get up” he said as he pointed a gun at her face. She quickly climbed up “Get in there” he said as he pointed into the lounge room “Look” she said backing in to the room “Your only getting yourself in to more trouble” “Shut-up, just shut your mouth, Rachel” he said referring to the name she used while she was undercover “or is it Ellen Mackenzie, you see Ellen. You find out some interesting things in prison, some other inmates had been done-in by you” “What are you going to do with me” she asked “I’m gonna make you pay, prison was a living hell, and you put me there. I trusted you and all the time you were a cop!” he said waving the gun around “and believe me you will pay” “Where is she?” Pete said as he walked up and down the factory. “Calm down Church, she’s only an hour late” Danni said trying to calm Pete down “But Danni you’ve gotta admit it’s a little strange for Mac to be this late, you know how punctual she is” “Maybe she’s just running a little late, or maybe she had to drop by at HQ” “I’ll ring her on the mobile” Pete said as he walked over to his desk “What’s going on with him?” Danni asked Angie “He’s just worried about her, that’s all” Angie said “The phone rang and then it just stopped so I’m ringing HQ to see if she’s there” he picked up the phone “Hello I’m looking for Detective Senior Sergeant Ellen Mackenzie, is she there at all” he asked. “Well thanks” he turned to the others “she’s not there, I’m going to her house”. “I’ll come with you” Oscar said as they ran out to Pete’s car “You don’t think that Mac’s really in trouble” Danni asked Angie worriedly. “I don’t know” Angie said “I’m gonna make you pay Mackenzie” “Please, Please just let me go please” she begged as she felt the gun pointed at her head. She didn’t feel in control and that is one situation that Mac doesn’t like getting herself into Suddenly she heard a knock at the door “Mac” she heard Stony yell out “Shit” Harry said “Why isn’t she answering” Pete asked Stone as he looked at her car in the drive-way “I’m going around the back” “Get down” Harry told Mac and pushed her to the floor. Suddenly Stony pushed through the door and pointed his gun at Harry “Just let her go Mate,” he said “Put your gun down, put it down or I’ll put a bullet in this pretty little face of hers, do it” Harry screamed at Stony. “Alright, alright” he said as he put the gun on the floor As Pete tried to quietly sneak through the backdoor of the house the door creaked and Harry turned around to see Pete sneaking in. Harry quickly pointed the gun at Mac’s head again with his arm around her neck “Well, Well, Well if it isn’t Peter Church” Harry said in a mocking tone “Just let her go Smith” Peter said “This bitch got me locked away and she’s gonna pay for it” “What are you going to do?” Mac asked “What does it look like” he said as got ready to pull the trigger on the gun “Pete, I, I, I love ” she whispered in scarred to tone until she was cut of by Harry “Shut-up” Harry said Suddenly Pete ran forward and pushed Mac out of the way and began wrestling with Harry when the gun rang out. “Pete!” Mac screamed as she ran over to his bleeding body. Harry then dropped the gun and began running as far away as he could. Stony called in for an ambulance and took of after him. Mac just sat there with Pete trying to help in anyway she could “Please don’t die” she said crying as she tried to stop the blood. ”I’m sorry, I’m so sorry”. She said as the ambulance came and Mac went with Pete while Stony brought Harry back. Mac sat in the waiting room praying that Pete was all right. He had been taken straight to the emergency room to be operated on. Finally after what seemed forever a doctor came out asking for Ellen Mackenzie. She got up and went over to him. “How is he?” she asked “He’s going to be fine” the doctor said. He directed Mac to Pete’s room and told her that he was only asleep. She walked in and sat by his bed till he woke up. Pete woke up and saw Mac asleep on the seat next to him. She stirred and woke up “Oh, Pete” she said “Your awake” “Yeah, I noticed,” he said. They just looked at each other for a few minuets then Mac broke the silence “Pete, I am so sorry, if I wasn’t so stubborn and, and had just listened to you, then none of this would ever had happened. It’s all my fault” she said “Mac, don’t blame yourself, I took that bullet because I care about you, you’re my best friend” “You know I feel the same way,” Mac said as she leaned over and gave him a small kiss on the cheek. Mac pulled away seconds before Danni, Stony and Angie walked into the hospital room carrying flowers. “I’m going to get something to drink” Mac said as they walked in “You want anything?” “Yeah, get me some decent food, this taste like crap” Pete answered “Sure” Mac smiled as she walked out of the Hospital ward. As she wondered through the hall she thought to herself that she actually hoped that Pete would have said more about them both, and she was kind of glad that while being held hostage she didn’t finish telling Pete that she loved him. Or maybe she hoped that she had the guts to tell him how she felt. Pete felt himself drifting out of the conversation that Danni, Angie and Stony were having and began thinking about Mac. Why didn’t he tell her how he really felt, that he was in love with her and that she was the most important thing in the world to him. Did he hear right before when he thought Mac said she loved him? He hoped so or maybe she was just scarred and that was all it was. One day, he’ll tell her that he loves her.
