History
Although not entirely cetain of when the first Club Baseball team took the field, Loyola's Club Baseball has been dated by experts to have played their first season in the early '80's. The team played such powerhouses as Northwestern University, Depaul University and Marquette
University. Loyola joined the WIBC
(Wisconsin-Illinois Baseball Conference in 2000. The league was comprised of Loyola University of
Chicago, UW Madison, UW Eau Claire, Marquette University, Depaul
University, and Northwestern University. In 2003, a few teams from this league disbanded and joined
a new national league called the NCBA (National Club Baseball Association).
Loyola fearing pressure from administration to do the same, eventually caved, joining the league in 2003. They started play in that league in the 2004 season.
In the 2003 season, Loyola University finished 8-7 finishing 3rd in the WIBC. They beat Depaul in the tournament before falling to the eventual champion Northwestern. They then lost to UW Fond du Lac in the semifinals. This was the second consecutive year that Loyola finished the season over .500.
In the 2003-4 season, the Rambler baseball team had a difficult time adjusting to the new national league. In the fall, the Ramblers went 3-0-1, however they couldn't manage a victory in the spring. Although winless in the 2004 spring season, the Ramblers showed lots of promise as the team was comprised of mostly first year and second year students. Loyola changed conferences for the 2005 season. They will play in The Great Lakes West Conference.
