The Northern Colonies which remained loyal to the Crown were Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec. In 1791 Quebec was divided into Lower Canada(present day Quebec) and Upper Canada (present day Ontario). The colonies were also often referred to as the Canadas. The Canadian colonies did not become the unified country of the Dominion of Canada until Confederation in 1867.
