| Welcome to the homepage of KFC-1310. I would like to use this page to give you a brief rundown on how I program the station. 1. Which Version Of A Song Gets Played. A. Unlike many other stations, if I can not find the 45 single version of a record, I will not play that record. In some cases, you may not recognize the way a song sounds, that's because most oldies stations throw whatever version is handy on the air, and that often winds up being the album version. B. In some cases, there may have been more than one version of a song released as a single. If a promo version that was meant only for airplay can be found, I will use that over what was sold in record stores. If two or more different edits/mixes/takes exist, I will note which is used in the title field of the mp3 tag. This mainly applies to British groups and the American versions of their songs. A simple key guide to how I tag is presented here: Single version- the song as released on the 45 RPM single. Promo version- a different edit or mix that was sent to radio stations. Single/LP version- the song was identical on both the single and the album. U.S. or U.K.- this refers to the record being either the American or British version. In some rare instances, I may also use a Canadian or other version. C. Also, in the fifties, sixties and early seventies it was common for more than one record of a song to be out at the same time and where I feel that a "cover' version is better than what was the hit, I will play the cover. This is in keeping with how programming directors used to listen to all the different artists' records and make a choice as to which would get played. D. Bootlegs- first off, they're not the hit record version and second, they're not legal for airplay, so don't expect to hear me play them. 2. How Songs Are Chosen. A. Unlike many internet oldies stations, KFC 1310 does not play a large amount of lesser-known records. I have nothing against those stations that play a lot of such records, it's just not my style to do that. B. You may not want to hear this, but it has to be said- many oldies that were big hits when originally released just do not hold up well. If I feel that a record that was a hit isn't going to be well-received by you, the listeners, then that record will never get played on my station. I know this is not going to sit well with some folks but that's the way it is. C. How The Music Is Processed. A. All songs are run through the following air chain- Compressor Limiter Actual AM transmitter Actual AM radio Then run by line-in into the computer. I feel this gives my station a true AM Mono sound. You will note that I do not use any plate reverb, although it was common for many stations to use it back when. It's a sound I've never cared for, so I don't use it. B. All recordings are done in Audacity, then exported as mp3 files. In closing, I would like to say I feel that KFC-1310 is a station that will always be worth the time you spend listening to it, and that I will always do my best to make sure that it is. |
