GENERAL SAFETY RULES

to be observed in the laboratory

 

DO’S

 

1 Follow given instructions when operating any machine or equipment.

 

2 Keep lab bench and lab floor clean and tidy. Help dispose of  waste materials at designated places.

 

3 Use a brush to sweep waste from lab bench or machine.

 

4 Check and ensure that handtools are in safe working condition before using them.

 

5 Use the right tool for the right job.

 

6 Switch off the mains supply when any equipment or machine is not in use.

 

7 Keep safety guards in place before operating the tool or machine.

 

8 Wear safety goggles when operating machines such as the grinder , the bandsaw and the drilling machine.

 

9 Return tools and equipment to their proper places when they are not in use.

 

10 Report any accident or dangerous practice to the staff immediately.

 

11 Observe safety signs when in the lab. 

 

DON’TS

 

1 Do not crowd around the machine or equipment.

 

2 Do not tamper with the machine or equipment.

 

3 Do not operate the machine or equipment without permission.

 

4 Do not operate the machine or equipment unless you are sure of its operation.

 

5 Do not talk to others while operating a machine.

 

6 Do not use any machine, equipment or appliance with defective outlet, plug or cable.

 

7 Do not horseplay in the lab.

 

8 Do not pull the cable when removing the plug from the mains socket outlet.

 

9 Do not operate the machine without the safety guard in place.

 

10 Do not begin your practical work without the staff informing you to do so.
