Dear Parents and Guardians, Your young person is enrolled in Chemistry 1. I am excited about the high academic caliber of the students enrolled in this course and look forward to teaching your son or daughter the fundamental principles of chemistry. I am enthusiastic for teaching and learning more about chemistry. I earned my B. S. in Chemistry and Zoology from the University of Washington and my credential in Chemistry and Biology from the University of California at Berkeley. This is my third year teaching at Lowell; I understand the preparation that is needed for university Freshmen Chemistry. This class will address the fundamental principles specified in the state content standards for Chemistry. Course information and assignments are posted on the class web page, www.geocities.com/lowellchemistry. Feel free to contact me whenever you have a concern or wish to make an inquiry about your childs progress. My email is [email protected]. Students need a 1-inch three-ring view binder with six dividers, a composition book for laboratory, a scientific calculator, and paper and pencils. Students will use their Chemistry binders daily in class and at home. Their textbooks will be left home on a daily basis. For maximum hygiene and comfort students need personal safety goggles. Goggles may be obtained at hardware stores. Otherwise, shared goggles will be provided. I expect that your childs performance and conduct in Chemistry will make you proud. During the year, I hope to learn more about your student. I look forward to meeting you on Back to School night, September 28th. Best wishes for the coming year. Sincerely, Katrina Rotter |
