"Reno"
Intake date Dec. 11, 2003

Reno is approximately 2 years old.  She was seized from her "home" by animal control on neglect charges in December 2003.  This poor baby was chained to a tree with no shelter and no food or water.  She was left there in the rain and cold by the person who owned her.  The animal shelter contacted us here at LBR to pull her and give her the TLC she deserved.  She is unfortunately positive for heartworms, and still very thin right now.  She appears to have been bred and had puppies before, but her sagging mammaries will not look so noticable once she puts on a few pounds.  She's been spayed now, so part one of her rehab is over.  We are getting ready to interview perspective homes that can foster her during her heartworm treatment.  She is a DARLING girl!  Very loving, crate trained, housebroken, and good with children.  We are still introducing her to other dogs, but so far gets along fine with males that are laid back.  She gets dominant and grouchy with females and younger dogs who pounce on her though.  She will NOT be allowed to go to a home with cats or other small animals.  She has attempted to attack a few neighboring cats and seems to have a HIGH prey drive for squirrels.  We have a good feeling that she will be fine in a home with another dog or even by herself.  Reno just wiggles herself silly when you talk to her or pet her.  We doubt that she's had much physical human contact in her life, but she sure is enjoying it now!

UPDATE!!
Reno was successfully treated for heartworms and put on the perfect amount of weight too.  She turned out to be wonderful with young or older children.

**************
Reno was adopted in July 2004, by a wonderful young woman living in a perfect setting for Reno.  Reno turned out to be a fence jumper, so her new apartment and her leash walks each day are just what was meant for her!  Her new Mommy grew up wtih Boxers and contacted us when she couldn't live on her own without one.  She was already interested in the "wild child", as we lovingly nick-named her, and after the first meeting, I could tell they were meant to be together.  Congratulations Kristen and Reno!!
