Character's Full name:
Teresia Cabarrus (or Theresia, Teresa, Theresa, Therese, Terezia... depending on which text you read). Ex-wife of the Marquis de Fontenay.
Occupation:
Political intrigue
Physical Description:
A hispanic beauty, quite tall, can pass for a boy (if wearing the right clothes in a poor light... which most lights were in the 18th century!).
Friendships/Relationships:
Jean-Lambert Tallien (the man she marries after the Thermidor Riots)
Chauvelin (he uses her to get to Blakeney)
Sir Percy Blakeney (the man with whom Teresia is smitten)
Marguerite Blakeney (Teresia is incredibly jealous of Margot and dislikes her intensely).
Personal History:
Teresia Cabarrus was a real person. Better known as Mme Tallien, she is mentioned in most texts on the Revolution, though I have yet to find a work devoted solely to her. What I know of her life has been collected from that most unreliable of sources - the Internet! A good synopsis of her life can be found at
Blakeney Manor.
Whilst my Teresia shares the real Teresia's start in life (daughter of a Spanish banker, married at the age of 15 to the Marquis de Fonteney, who fled France in 1788 and whom she divorced in 1789), from there on they part company. The real Teresia spent most of the Revolution in the provinces where, so it's said, she used her influence over Tallien to incline him towards leniency during trials. This earnt her an all expenses paid trip to La Force & Carmes, where she shared a cell with Josephine (the future Mme Bonaparte)... rumour has it that a cell wasn't all the pair shared during their life-time (Corsican morals, tsk, tsk!). So you can see that, as far as our RPG is concerned, playing Teresia to real life would be somewhat pointless.
My Teresia is a free-spirited, flirtatious, sexy, intelligent woman. She speaks fluent French and fairly good English, but in moments of high emotion she reverts to her native Spanish. She lives alone in her apartment in Paris, but is never lonely, and (like her real life counterpart) knows how to exploit the male weakness for her beauty. Thanks to Chauvelin, she gets mixed up with the mystery of the Scarlet Pimpernel and for the first time in her life the sultry seductress' plans back-fire... she falls for him.
Character's connection to the Revolution or The League:
She has no real loyalty either way. She looks out for number one.
