Favorite Quote:
"Tell me not, Sweet, I am unkind, For from the nunnery Of thy chaste breast, and quiet mind, To war and arms I fly. True, a new mistress now I chase, The first foe in the field; And with a stronger faith - embrace A sword, a horse, a shield. Yet this unconstancy is such, As you too shall adore; For, I could not love thee, Dear, so much, Loved I not honour more." -- Richard Lovelace, 1618 - 1658
Birthday:
December 1st, 1768
Character's Full name:
Sir Richard Jeremy Galveston
Occupation:
First rate philanthropist, philosopher and regular out-for-a-good-time Dandy
Physical Description:
Little under 6' tall with a broad, muscular build that promises the kind of strength found in those most successful in the ring. Richard has a soft, intellectual eye that often appears thoughtful, though at times it gives him a meloncholy look sympathetic to his dark, seemingly wistful features. Along with his straight, classically Roman nose and broad, intelligent brow, Galveston has a cupid's grin that he can just as quickly turn into the model fop simper when the need for a facade arises. He wears his nearly black, wavy hair sans powder or wig and tied neatly at the nape of his neck with a ribbon to match his garb. A man unashamed of dressing his finest, Galveston has no qualms about employing the finest tailors in town. Though he is never one to shirk from doing his share of the dirty work, the baronet always enjoys stepping back into his clean, pressed linen, tying the perfect cravat, taking up his favourite walking cane and entering the nearest ballroom, ready for an evening of dancing and flirting with the ladies.
Friendships/Relationships:
Closest friend is his distant cousin and schoolmate, Sir Nicholas MacKensie. He gets along well with all the other members of the league. Galveston has four younger sisters who idolise him and a doting mother who firmly believes her only son can do no wrong -- the poor woman would be in such a state of shock if only she knew...
Personal History:
Sir William Richard Galveston II, Richard's father, joined the Royal Army on a purchased commission at a young age, wooed and married Marie Anne Carrington and had five children over the course of ten years. Richard, the eldest, and only son of Galveston, had a close relationship with his father, though it greatly disappointed the elder Galveston when he discovered his only son had no pressing desire to join the military. Shortly before Richard's thirteenth birthday Sir William was killed serving as a colonel under General Cornwallis in the battle of Yorktown across the Atlantic sea.
Even before his father's death Richard had grown accustomed to his father's long absenses and had gracefully stepped into his role as head of the family -- caring for his mother, protecting and raising his four sisters and generally acting as man of the family long before most young men reached puberty. This responsibility forced Richard into early maturity, resulting in the young man acquiring wisdom beyond his years and nurturing his interest in the philosophical arts.
Richard is a bookworm, and full of all sorts of trivial information that drives his friends crazy. He takes great pleasure in quoting his favourite authors and will gladly spend long hours in a comfortable drawing room arguing, defending or simply listening to those intelligent minds many years his senior recite old tales of the past, current politics or just ramble on in their old age. He has infinite patience and is almost impossible to get riled. Being a good Englishman, he enjoys adventure and sport like any other buck, and is always willing to fine tune his flirting with the ladies, which he excels at, but, likely due to being raised in a houseful of women, the young dandy enjoys a comfortable armchair and the daily gazette over a steaming cup of tea just as much, if not more, than a smashing game of polo and a night on the town.
